Bishop finishes third in MEC CC championship

The Mountain East Conference crowned its cross country champions last weekend at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.

Wheeling Jesuit finished fourth in the men’s team competition with 89 points. The Cardinals were led by former Martins Ferry standout Jacob Bishop. The multiple-sport and multiple-time all-Ohioan has been impressive in his rookie collegiate campaign.

Bishop finished fifth overall to earn first-team all-MEC and lead the Cardinals’ scoring. He crossed the finish line in a time of 26 minutes, 55.9 seconds for the 8 kilometer race.

The third Cardinal to cross the line was Harrison Central graduate Zack Henry. A state qualifier in two sports during his prep days, Henry crossed in 29:29.1 to finish 21st overall.

Wheeling Park graduate Albert Schrimp was 22nd overall in 29:29.8.

In the women’s race, Wheeling Jesuit finished second to West Virginia Wesleyan. The Cardinals accumulated 47 points.

Leading the way was former Oak Glen standout Kelsey Chambers. She was named MEC Female Runner of the Year after winning the conference title in a 23 minutes, 9.8 seconds. She was 20 seconds better than her nearest competitor.

St. John Central alumnus Fallon Doyle turned in a solid showing, too. She was 11th in 25:28. Caldwell product Jenna Furr was 14th in 25:41 and Magnolia graduate Jordan Delaney finished 19th in 26:03.

FOOTBALL

Division I

COLTON McKIVITZ, West Virginia — Union Local graduate started at tackle once again and also graded out as one of the top-ranked at his position in the Big 12 last week, according to Pro Football Focus.

JOSH SILLS, West Virginia — Meadowbrook product played in a reserve role at guard and was also one of the top-graded at his position in the conference, according to Pro Football Focus.

AUSTIN DORRIS, Indiana — Shadyside product played in last week’s loss to Michigan State.

ROSS COMIS, UMass — Madonna alumnus and his Minutemen teammates returned to the field for the first time since September and he played a key role. He completed 12-of-16 passes for 193 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also rushed for 46 yards on 5 carries.

ELIJIAH BELL, North Carolina A&T — Wheeling Park graduate caught a pass for 10 yards in last week’s win. The Aggies are undefeated and ranked sixth in the FCS Poll.

CHUCKWUDI CHUCKWU, Ohio — Linsly graduate had 2 tackles, including one for loss in last week’s victory.

Division II

ROBERT VARGO, Ohio Dominican — Martins Ferry graduate started at right guard in the Panthers’ victory.

MATT BARBOUR, Ohio Dominican — Martins Ferry product saw time in last week’s game.

NYJUAN ROBINSON, Ohio Dominican — Steubenville graduate recorded 2 tackles in a win over Alderson-Broaddus last week.

SHYOUN PETTEWAY, Ohio Dominican — Steubenville product had 4 tackles and broke up a pass in last week’s victory.

COLE SKAGGS, West Virginia Wesleyan — St. Clairsville graduate played last week as the Bobcats upset nationally ranked Notre Dame of Ohio.

MATT KINNICK, West Virginia State — Fifth-year senior from St. Clairsville completed 25-of-41 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 8 times for 79 yards in a win over West Liberty.

MATT HACKATHORN, Gannon — Wheeling Park graduate started at right tackle last week.

COREY ERNEST, West Liberty — St. Clairsville graduate made yet another start at right tackle for the Hilltoppers, who dropped to 2-6 on the season.

TREVOR HARDESTY, West Liberty — John Marshall graduate caught a pass for 18 yards and recorded a tackle.

CLIFFORD CLARK, West Liberty — Cambridge graduate posted 11 tackles in last week’s setback.

CHANCE RUCKER, West Liberty — Caldwell graduate started at right tackle in last week’s outing.

AUSTIN WHIPKEY, West Liberty — Linsly graduate started at right guard once again.

SAVION JOHNSON, West Liberty — Wheeling Park graduate carried 16 times for 90 yards and scored his first collegiate touchdown.

THEO BLACKSTON, Mercyhurst — Wheeling Park product caught a pass for 3 yards.

Division III

DALTON SECHREST, Marietta — Beallsville product recorded a tackle in last week’s game.

TANNER CLARK, Marietta — Caldwell product rushed 7 times for 54 yards and posted two tackles.

GAGE GIOVENGO, Marietta — Linsly graduate played in the Pioneers’ game last week.

LUCAS HERRINGTON, Mount Union — Steubenville grad caught 2 passes for 33 yards and a touchdown last week.

CHRISTIAN WITCHEY, St. Vincent’s — St. Clairsville alumnus punted five times for 213 yards, which is a 42.6 yard average. He had a long of 53 yards and one was downed inside the 20.

VON WOODING, Oberlin — Linsly graduate continued his fine campaign with 12 tackles in last week’s loss to Wabash.

HAYDEN GAUS, Kenyon — Linsly product had seven tackles last week.

AUSTIN CURNES, Washington & Jefferson — Wheeling Park product started at left guard once again for the Presidents.

CROSS COUNTRY

MEGAN BATEMAN, California, Pa. — Union Local graduate finished 63rd with a time of 25:34 in the PAC Championship Meet.

SHAYE BECKETT, California, Pa. — Bellaire product was 77th in 25:53 at the conference meet.
