OFF THE TEE: Glitch claims victory in Oglebay Park Golf Club
The Oglebay Park Golf Club took advantage of the sunny skies last Sunday for its second event of the young season, the Allen Kage Memorial Snowbird.
The event featured 51 players at the Crispin Center.
By virtue of a score-card playoff, Bill “Tice” Glitch won the championship with a round of 73. Also signing for a 73 was George Templin.
Checking in with rounds of 74 were Brian Ghaphery, Bryan Myers and Paul Kurtz. Rich Humphrey was seventh with a 76, while Chris Kiedaisch posted a 78. Rounding out the top 10 were Cody Anderson (79) and Dan Tennant (82).
In the hanidcap division, Bob Custer prevailed with a 61. Jim Dailer was second with a 65. Tied for third were Mark Dodd, Hunter Travis and Mark Maguire Sr.
Several skill prizes were award, too. Winning the closest to the pins were Matt Klug (No. 2), Paul Kurtz (No. 5), Bob Custer (No. 7), Chuck Hawkins (No. 10) and Jake Pennybacker (No. 13).
The skins went to Jim Bittengle (No. 1), Chris Kiedaisch (No. 2), Brian Ghaphery (No. 8), Chuck Hawkins (No. 10) and Greg Woodfin (No. 13).
COLLEGE GOLF
MARTINS FERRY graduate Andrew Chlon continued his fine season for Wheeling Jesuit. The graduate student fired a round of 77 to garner a 10th place finish in the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic at Berry Hills in Charleston. Chlon didn’t qualify for the all-MEC team because it encompassed the fall season, too.
TEE INFORMATION
It’s my annual plea to you — the reader — of this column for help throughout the spring and summer months.
This column has become a staple of our spring and summer Sunday editions.
I get a lot of results from different leagues, tournaments and junior events as well as scramble listings. Anytime you have an event, an ace, know of someone from the Ohio Valley working or shining in golf outside of the area, feel free to drop me a line. If you’re hosting an event,
I’d love to promote it. If you played a fabulous course with a group of buddies at Myrtle Beach, overseas, out west, let me know. Could make a good feature.
othing is off limits if it’s local golf related.
Anyway, Off the Tee is back and will be a weekly fixture from now until through Labor Day, which will be here before we know it.
My email is at the bottom of this column. I can also be reached on Twitter (@TLSportsSeth) or even on Facebook (just search my name).
