OFF THE TEE: Two-man scramble set for Brooke Hills Park

A relatively new, but popular golf scramble, is back on the calendar and currently accepting players. The second annual Two-Man Scramble to benefit “Dream Big After School Music Program” will be held at Brooke Hills Park.

The scramble will be held on Saturday, June 30 at Brooke Hills Park. The entry fee is $50 per team and that includes breakfast and lunch after the round. There will be prizes for the top two teams as well as closest to the pins. Several door prizes will be awarded during the round, too.

Hole sponsorships are also available for $100.

WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB

The Rich & Shirtley Quickprint event was held last week at Wheeling Park. Six players carded a round of 36 in the event, but after all of the tiebreakers, George Melnik was crowned the winner.

Rod Eikey was the runnerup and Tom Mitchell checked in in third place. Rich Colley, Art Lightner and Roger Kupfer also had that score.

Bill Kerns captured the handicap scoring portion of the event with a 34. He edged out Jim Druschel. Terry Younkins also carded a 34, while Mike Mazure posted a 35. Josh Green also carded a 35.

The Doris Kinney Memorial bestball scramble was held. Gary Mercer and Chris Bommer posted a 62 to win by four shots over Art Lightner and Jim Druschel. Dave Stauver and Dick Mooree were third with a 70.

In the handicap scoring, Bruno DeCrease and John Wakim each had a 58. Bill Kerns and Josh Green also posted a 58. Robbie Evans and George Melnik were third with a 58.

SCRAMBLES

Buckeye Local Slates Scramble to Benefit Vinci

Buckeye Local is sponsoring a three-man golf scramble to benefit former Buckeye Local High School staff member, Jeff Vinci. Vinci, who is battling cancer, is a former assistant athletic director and maintenance supervisor.

The scramble will be held on Saturday, May 26 at Paradise Hills Golf Course. The entry fee is $40 per player. Hot dogs and soft drinks will be provided. The event is BYOB.

Niekro Scramble Scheduled

One of the staples of the Ohio Valley’s summer golf schedule is turning 20.

The annual Niekro Classic Golf Scramble, which benefits Bridgeport schools, is slated for Friday, June 22 at Belmont Hills Country Club. A shotgun start is slated for 8:30 a.m. and the cost to enter is $100 per player for a four-man team.

There will once again be an open division and an Bridgeport division. Sponsorships for the event are also available.

The defending champions are the team of Lou Caliguiri, Michael Dillmore, Mike Anthony and Jade Waligura.

Bellaire Sons of Italy Scramble Slated

The 19th annual Sons of Italy Bellaire Lodge #754 will hold its annual golf scramble to benefit Alzheimers & Cooley’s Anemia Charities on Monday, June 4 at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Golf Course. The entry fee is $200 per team, which includes golf, cart, refreshments on the course and dinner following the round. Doughty Pelotonia Scramble Slated for Oglebay Park

TE Church Golf Scramble Planned

The inaugural TE Church Golf Scramble will be held at Cadiz Country Club on Saturday, May 26 with play scheduled to begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee is $75 per player or $300 per team and that includes golf, cart and a steak dinner after the round. The field is limited to the first 25 teams to register. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams and there will also be skill prizes, including a chance to win a car or a Harley Davidson motorcycle for an ace.
