Wheeling Elks Junior Tourney champs crowned

WHEELING — The Wheeling Elks #28 Junior Golf Tournament was held this past week at Oglebay Park.

The tournament featured boys and girls players in multiple age groups.

The boys’ winners included:

In 16-18 year old division: Derrick Harrison (73), Blake Ring-Fish (78) and George Lollathin (83).

In the 13-15 year old division: Will Foster (86), Ethan Bethel (92) and Mason Orndorff (101).

In the 10-12 year old division: Cam Koegler (85), Lorenzo Donzella (90), Tyler Dean (95) and Andrew Abel (95).

The champions of the 7-9 year old division were: Landen Cook (46), Seth Weidner (51) and Reed Weidner (54).

The girls’ champions in the 16-18 year old division were Emily Holzopfel (93) and Clarissa Edgar (106).

The 13-15 year old champions were Brooke Chamberlain (101), Allison Sampson (115) and Lauren Tekely (122).

WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB

The Dick Gibbons Memorial was held on June 20. Gery Mercer prevailed by a shot over George Melnik by virtue of his round of 33. Robbie Evans (36), Rod Eikey (37), Chris Bommer and Jim Druschel (38) rounded out the top five, including ties.

The hanidcap scoring was won by Bill Piccard, who had a 32. Dick Moore prevailed with a 33, while Ray Coe had a 33 to finish third. Russ Travis (34), Jerry Daugherty (35) and Joe Kosar (35) rounded out the top five.

On June 17, the club held its Timbergrove Construction event. The trio of Davis, Bommer and Mercer prevailed with a round of 57, which was two shots better than Lightner, Kupfer and Druschel. Kosar, Domyab and Evans were third by 10 shots with a 61.

In the handicap portion of the event, Wurtzbacher, Green and Usenick won with a 50. Ennis, Green and Klamut checked in with a 53. Daugherty, Travis and Porter prevailed with a round of 56.

OGLEBAY WOMEN’S GOLF CLUB

The club held its sixth annual tournament at the Crispin Golf Center at Oglebay Park. The event drew players from throughout the tri-state area and presented nearly $2,000 in prize money. The proceeds of the event benefitted the Wheeling Health Right.

The OWGA, which has more than 60 members, plays each Tuesday morning at Crispin until October.

The first-place prize went to the team of Bunny Fajerski, Arlene Most, Chantelle Moore and Ann Hoover from Canonsburg. The team fired a round of 52, while the low gross award, with a score of 60, went to Mishal Hawthorne, Mary Ann Bainbridge, Elaine Minda and Barbara LaVaglio from Weirton.

YOUTH GOLF

The First National Bank Junior Golf Tour made a stop at the Zoar Village Golf Course last Thursday.

The top area finisher was Barnesville’s Payne Johnson, who signed for a round of 82. Martins Ferry’s Luke Krol posted an 89 and Harrison Central’s duo of Nick Coffland and Cameron McIntosh posted a 91 and 94, respectively.

Buckeye Trail’s Rylie Smith was the runnerup in the girls’ 16-18 year old division with a round of 88.

Barnesville’s Carter Wells posted a round of 83 in the 13-15 year old division. Harrison Central’s Sam Santille and St. Clairsville’s Will Foster posted rounds of 87 and 91, respectively.

BELMONT HILLS JUNIOR

TOURNAMENT

The Belmont Hills Country Club Junior Tournament is slated for Monday, July 23 and will feature three age groups for boys and two for girls. There will be awards for the top three finishers in each division. The entry fee is $30 and checks can be made payable to the Barnesville Golf Parents. Lunch will be provided for all spectators.

The event will feature a 9 a.m. shotgun start and the deadline to enter is Monday, July 18.

Bellaire Touchdown Club

Scramble Slated

The Bellaire Touchdown Club will be sponsoring its 12th annual golf outing on June 30 at the Fairway River Links. The entry fee is $60 per person or $240 per team. The cost includes cart, lunch, beverages and a dinner after the scramble. Doughty Pelotonia Scramble Slated for Oglebay Park

Muskingum Golf Outing Slated

The Muskingum University Athletic Department is hosting its annual golf outing at EagleSticks Golf Course in Zanesville on Thursday, July 26 at noon. The cost is $100 per golfer or $400 per foursome. Price includes 18 holes of golf, drink tickets, and dinner. Additionally, the event will feature a ball drop contest … $50 per ball with a chance to win $5,000 if your ball lands closest to the hole or in the hole. Powhatan Legion Ladies

Auxiliary Slated

The Powhatan American Legion Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring its fifth three-man golf scramble at the Clar-Mar golf course on Aug. 11. Shotgun start at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $200, which includes golf, cart, and a dinner following at the post home. This year’s scramble is in memory of Brady Baker. Teams are limited so get your entry fees in asap. Entry fees can be made at the post home, call 740 795-4190 or 740 310-2935. Money raised will go toward scholarships.
