OFF THE TEE: Oglebay Park Golf Club event settled by scorecard playoff

The Oglebay Park Golf Club teed it up for another event last weekend.

The sixth tournament of the season — the Randy Hardman Memorial Tournament, which is sponsored by Miklas Meat Market — featured a field of 100 players at the Crispin Golf Course, playing with stroke play.

Bob Potts — by virtue of a scorecard playoff — prevailed with a round of 64. Also posting a 64 was Mike Wetzel. Bob Clark posted a 68 to finish third, while Rick Zandron finished with a 69.

The balance of the top eight included: Brooke Garrison (69), Penn Kurtz (70), Rich Humphrey (70) and Joe Doerr (70).

In the hanidcap scoring portion of the event, Mike Ricci — the West Liberty golf coach — prevailed by a shot over McKenzie O’Brien by a shot. Ricci had a 60, while O’Brien was charted for a 61.

Chuck Dedo, who also had a 61, finished third, while Mike Mazure was fourth with a 61. James Wallace finished fifth with a 62. Mark Dodd was next with a 62. Rounding out the top eight is Floyd Shuler and Chris Yahn with a 63.

There were also close to the pin prizes awarded. Those went to Joe Doerr (No. 2), Mark Dodd (No. 5), Chris Yahn (No. 7), Bob Potts (No. 10) and Scott Jackson (No. 13).

The skins went to Mike Wetzel (No. 4), Chris Yahn (No. 7) and Bob Potts (No. 8 and No. 14).

JUNIOR GOLF

The First National Bank Tour resumed last Monday at Willandale Golf Club in Sugarcreek on the par 72 layout.

The top area finisher was Martins Ferry’s Luke Krol, who carded an 85. Harrison Central’s Cameron McIntosh turned in an 88, while Huskies’ teammate Nick Coffland swung the clubs 94 times during the round.

In the 16-18 year old girls’ division, Buckeye Trail’s Rylie Smith posted an 89 as the top area finisher, but she was 18 shots off the pace.

In the 13-15 year old boys’ division, Harrison Central’s Sam Santille was 12 shots back of the winner with his round of 88. St. Clairsville’s Will Foster posted a round of 89.

The boys’ 12 and under division, which was just nine holes, was a tight-nit battle. Buckeye Trail’s Bobby Deibel finished with a 47, which was two shots back.

BELMONT HILLS JUNIOR

TOURNAMENT

The Belmont Hills Country Club Junior Tournament is slated for Monday, July 23 and will feature three age groups for boys and two for girls. There will be awards for the top three finishers in each division. The entry fee is $30 and checks can be made payable to the Barnesville Golf Parents. Lunch will be provided for all spectators.

The event will feature a 9 a.m. shotgun start and the deadline to enter is Monday, July 18.

Doughty Pelotonia Scramble Slated for Oglebay Park

Muskingum Golf Outing Slated

The Muskingum University Athletic Department is hosting its annual golf outing at EagleSticks Golf Course in Zanesville on Thursday, July 26th at noon. The cost is $100 per golfer or $400 per foursome. Price includes 18 holes of golf, drink tickets, and dinner. Additionally, the event will feature a ball drop contest … $50.00 per ball with a chance to win $5,000 if your ball lands closest to the hole or in the hole. Ohio Valley Wrestling Officials Association Sets Event

The Ohio Valley Wrestling Officials Association will be playing host to its annual golf scramble Saturday, Aug. 11 at Cadiz Country Club. Registration begins at noon, with shoutgun start at 1. Dinner will be served at 6. Entry fee is $240 per 4-man team. Entry includes golf, prizes, skins game and dinner. Powhatan Legion Ladies

Auxiliary Slated

The Powhatan American Legion Ladies Auxiliary are sponsoring their fifth three-man golf scramble at the Clar-Mar golf course on August 11. Shotgun start at 9:00. The entry fee is $200.00, which includes golf, cart, and a dinner following at the post home. This year’s scramble is in memory of Brady Baker. Teams are limited so get your entry fees in asap. Deihl Memorial

Scramble Slated

The 8th Annual Vance Deihl Memorial Scholarship Scramble is being held on Saturday, July 21 at Cadiz Golf Course in Cadiz, Ohio. The entry fee is $60.00 per player with checks made payable to Vance Deihl Memorial Scholarship Fund. Sign in at 7:30 a. m. with a shot gun start at 8:00 a.m. The fee includes refreshments on the course, lunch at first turn, dinner after tournament, and prizes.

Vance Deihl was a teacher, coach, and athletic trainer at Martins Ferry High School for 30 years. All proceeds benefit scholarships for Martins Ferry High School seniors.
