WLU quarterback sidelined for year with broken wrist

Zach Phillips was enjoying a most productive season.

Actually, the former Wheeling Park quarterback was enjoying a brilliant career at West Liberty since he arrived via the transfer route from Gannon.

Unfortunately, Phillips’ season has come to an end.

West Liberty formally announced Phillips would miss the remainder of the season because of a broken wrist he sustained last week in a win over Walsh.

Phillips finishes his Hilltoppers career, which spanned just 16 games, with an impressive 3,389 yards passing and 30 touchdowns. He also rushed for 519 yards and 8 more scores.

Taking over the Hilltopper quarterback duties will be Erick Taylor, who is a true sophomore. He was pressed into action last weekend during the overtime session. Taylor began his prep career at Linsly, but ultimately graduated from North Catholic in Pittsburgh.

West Liberty is currently 4-3 on the season and plays another road game this week at Fairmont before returning home on Halloween night to take on Urbana in the home finale.
