Three of a kind. USS San Juan, E’s Sweet Fay and USS Ricochet. All fueled by speed and enjoying success in Grade AA. The Lester Raines Kennel trio have stepped up their games since coming to the Wheeling Island racetrack. Juan and Fay spent parts of 2007 at Wheeling while Ricochet arrived earlier this year. “I’m real happy with each one of them. They are dogs you can count on week after week,” Raines Kennel trainer Joel Roden said. “In Grade AA, it’s nice to know all three have a shot to go to the front each time they race.” In 2008, the three sprinters have combined ...

OSU headed to N.Y.C.

COLUMBUS — NCAA Tournament: Who needs it? Sweet 16: Does it really matter? In all honesty, it most certainly does mean something. However, don’t tell the sell-out crowd that jammed inside of Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center Wednesday night to watch their beloved Buckeyes do battle with state-rival Dayton in the National Invitational Tournament quarterfinals anything about that other tournament that resumes this evening. Because, for the Buckeyes and their fans the only thing that really matters is they are making reservations for the Final Four. ...

Back to the grind after off weekend

NASCAR’s “Weekend Warriors” are back at it today as they tackle the smallish Martinsville Speedway in Virginia.     After spending Easter weekend with their families, the Sprint Cup Chase resumes today with the Goody’s Cool Orange 500 on the half-mile oval.     It should come as no surprise that Jeff Gordon is sitting on the pole for today’s 2 p.m. race, as the “Rainbow Warrior” has now claimed that position seven times. He has also driven to victory lane seven times at the track. ...

Van Do wins Superstar Challenge

Van Do may have romped to a 5-length victory in the final of the $10,000 Superstar Challenge at Wheeling Island last weekend, but there were some anxious moments early in the race. Locked in a speed battle with BD’s Flip to the first turn, a lot could have happened. Van Do made sure it didn’t. The C And C Kennel sprint star would not be denied as he powered his way to the lead on the rail before running away from the stellar field in the inaugural Superstar Challenge. BD’s Flip (Darren Henry Kennel) held on for second while Gable Fx (Gable Kennel) rounded out the trifecta ...
