Give it a rest Favre

Enough is enough!

I don’t know about you readers out there, but I’m getting sick and tired of hearing about Brett Favre’s saga.

After the Green Bay Packers’ All-Pro quarterback announced his retirement in early March, yours truly penned a column praising the signal-caller.

Now, though, it seems good old Brett didn’t really mean he wanted to retire, stating “I retired prematurely.”

Well, that statement drew my ire!

What could have possibly changed his mind in the last three months?

He had the blessings of his wife and children, along with other family members and close friends.

I don’t blame the Packers for their stance on the matter. Favre ask their permission for reinstatement to the team, but they politely said “no.”

When he announced his retirement, the Packers started looking towards the future, and I don’t blame them. They’ve got a good, young quarterback in Aaron Roger who has studied under Favre for the past two seasons.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m still a big fan of Favre. Always have been, always will be, but he is getting what he deserves.

If the Packers are serious about trading the sure-fire hall of famer, I would make sure it’s to a team in the AFC that is NOT on Green Bay’s schedule this upcoming season.

As reported Tuesday by NFL. com, the Packers were said to be talking with several teams about a possible trade, including one in the NFC.

My late grandfather was a die-hard Green Bay backer who never got to see Favre lead the Pack. He died almost 20 years ago and would probably be turning over in his grave if he knew what his beloved team was going through.

But I do know this, being the stickler for strictness that he was, Gramps wouldn’t have wanted Favre back. He would have packed his No. 4 jersey up and never wore it again.
