Union Local makes it 2-0 with sweep of River

MORRISTOWN — Torre Kildow had 12 kills and nine digs and Casey Kildow collected 11 assists and eight digs Wednesday evening helping Union Local to a 25-8, 25-18, 25-17 victory against River in prep volleyball action inside “The Hangar.”

Lacy Bilyeu added seven digs for the Jets (2-0).

Allison Bennett had 10 digs and seven assists for the Pilots (1-1), while Lacey Cordery had 13 digs.

Beaver Local Downs St. Clairsville

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Ella Brak had seven digs and four kills, bit wasn’t enough as St. Clairsville dropped a 25-18, 32-30, 25-21 decision to Beaver Local on John Jenkins Court.

Paige Sefsick added nine digs for the Red Devils (0-2), while Lydia Wees had six blocks.

Ferry boys, Bellaire girls win at Buckeye

CONNORVILLE — The opening Ohio Valley Cross Country League meet of the season was held at Buckeye Local High School.

Martins Ferry’s boys scored 29 points, which was 44 fewer than runner-up St. Clairsville.

The Purple Riders placed all five of their scorers inside the overall top 10. Leading the way for Ferry was Wyatt Wodarcyk, who finished third.

Bellaire’s Jacob Defibaugh claimed the boys overall title, fighting off Barnesville’s Tyler Jenkins for the title.

THE BELLAIRE girls claimed the top spot in the team scoring, finishing with 49 points, which was four ahead of St. Clairsville.

The Big Reds top placer was senior Katrina Davis, who was fourth overall.

River’s Livi Beard was the top area finisher, placing second overall, while St. Clairsville’s Allyson Evonek was third.
