PREP ROUNDUP: Defibaugh, Park girls win crowns

BYESVILLE — Bellaire’s Jacob Defibaugh won his second cross country event in four days Saturday, claiming the Meadowbrook Invitational at Meadowbrook High School.

Defibaugh, who won his first Belmont Country crown Wednesday, won the crown with a time of 16:36.4 as cooler conditions replaced warm and muggy ones that enveloped the area Friday.

Wheeling Park’s boys were second, while Martins Ferry was third.

The Patriots’ Vincent DiProsperis (17:05.4) and Jonah Nizami (17:16.2) were fourth and eighth, respectively. Elijah Smith was 10th overall (17:37.8) for the Purple Riders.

Tyler Jenkins was 11th for Barnesville (17:47.1) and Hunter Tomich was 14th for St. Clairsville (17:56.9).

Wheeling Park’s girls won the team title behind overall champion Isabella Disaia. The senior finished with a time of 19:26.

Buckeye Trail sophomore Kathryn Williams was ru8nner-up in 19:40.1

Martins Ferry was fourth as a team, led by the duo of Josie Hancock and Chloe Hill who weren eighth (20:58.3) and ninth (21:02.1), respectively.

Garaway Bests Harrison Central

CADIZ — Lexi Ferguson had 13 assists and 11 digs for Harrison Central, but the Huskies fell to Garaway 25-18, 25-15, 21-25, 25-17.

Maddy Butler added 17 digs for Harrison Central, while Kobey Johnson had 12 digs and five kills.

Danyel Beadling had five kills for the Huskies, Kate Crothers had five aces and Maria Roush, Lizzy Clelland and Becca Banks all recorded five blocks.
