Area gridders earn All-Ohio accolades

COLUMBUS — Four area players earned All-Ohio acclaim Sunday evening when the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association announced its annual teams for Divisions VI and VII.

Shadyside’s Wyatt Reiman and River’s Carter Dennis were named to the first team.

Reiman, who was the Tigers unquestioned offensive leader, was named the Eastern District’s Offensive Player of the Year after a campaign in which he rushed 177 times for 1,346 yards and 24 touchdowns. He was also effective in the passing game, hauling in 26 passes for 591 yards and six touchdowns.

Dennis, meanwhile, was all over the field defensively for the Pilots. From his linebacker post, Dennis, who was named the Eastern District’s Defensive Player of the Year, posted 118 tackles, 15 for loss and nine sacks. On the offensive side, Dennis rushed for 777 yards and scored 14 touchdowns.

Beallsville’s Dakota Phillips, who did a little bit of everything for the Blue Devils, earned All-Ohio Second Team. He completed 59-of-154 passes for 1,105 yards and 12 touchdowns. He rushed for 567 yards and 13 touchdowns. He played some receiver, catching 12 passes for 215 yards and a touchdowns. He also scored 105 total points.

River’s Heath Rosen was named Second-Team All-Ohio as an offensive lineman. He graded out at better than 95 percent for Coach Mike Flannery’s squad.

The All-Ohio teams will continue to be announced this afternoon with Divisions IV and V.
