Monroe falls in D-VII playoffs

GLOUSTER — Monroe Central hung tough with with one of the better teams in Division VII, Region 27, but the Seminoles eventually dropped a 47-26 decision to Glouster Trimble in playoff action Friday night.

Senior Alex Kilburn rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns for the Seminoles while Malachi Rose-Burton passed for more than 73 and a TD and ran for 64 and two more scores, but it wasn’t enough as the top-seeded Tomcats (7-0) reeled off 35 unanswered points to rally from a 20-12 deficit.

Kilburn scored on a 25-yard run and Rose-Burton converted the two-point run for an 8-0 lead.

Rose Burton then found Michael Bunning on a 29-yard TD strike and Rose-Burton ran in from 4 yards out as Monroe Central led 20-12.

However, it was all Brice Downs and GT. Downs ran for 180 yards and three touchdowns.

Garet Cramer charted 15 tackles for Monroe Central.

Bridgeport 28, Racine Southern 21

The Bulldogs (3-5) surprised a lot of non-believers with this road victory.

The Tornadoes had rushed for more than 700 yards last week against Beallsville.

Newcomerstown 0

The Panthers (2-6) blanked the homestanding Trojans.

Trey Hoover scored three rushing touchdowns and Brian Palmer had a receiving six-pointer.
