Shadyside, Union Local advance to district volleyball tournament
After one full week of tournament volleyball, the immediate area will send two teams in district tournament play.
Union Local and Shadyside advanced with convincing sweeps in Divisions III and IV, respectively, Saturday afternoon.
At Morristown, the second-seeded Jets wasted little time in dispatching Coshocton, 25-13, 25-10 and 25-14.
The Jets were led by Torre Kildow’s 20 kills. Reagan Vinskovich, Chloe Doud and Casey Kildow evenly divided 15 kills. Casey Kildow also had 21 assists and 11 digs. Lacy Bilyeu and Torre Kildow each had eight digs. Baylee Rex also had six digs.
Union Local will be back in action on Wednesday inside ‘The Hangar.’
At Shadyside, the Tigers were just as impressive in easily eliminating Steubenville Catholic Central by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-21.
The Tigers led by sophomore Gentry Brown’s 14 kills, three aces, three digs and three blocks. Tory Hendershot and Kylie Jo Baker each had eight kills. Baker also had four aces, while Caroline Mercer had 30 assists. Paige Gorby and Baylee Wach had six and five kills, respectively. Gorby also had four digs and four blocks.
Shadyside will take on Strasburg in a battle of Tigers on Wednesday in Belmont County.
