Prep Roundup: River, Bridgeport, Harrison boys pick up victories; Ferry swimmers shine

HANNIBAL — River put the brakes on a brief two-game losing skid by knocking off Barnesville, 55-45, Saturday night in the R.L. Potts Gymnasium at River.

The Pilots received 18 points from sophomore Ty Long. Freshman Kabel Isaly and River Thompson each had 10, while Brody Lollathin added nine.

The Shamrocks (2-5) saw nary a player reach double figures. Colton Hines had nine points, while Jake Edwards and Jeremy Hunkler each had nine.

Harrison Central 62, John Glenn 51

CADIZ — Invading John Glenn got a full dose of Harrison Central senior Kobe Mitchell during Saturday’s game.

Mitchell, who is bound for the University of Akron, scored 42 of his team’s points. Junior Jonathan Vermillion added eight.

The Lil Muskies were led by Avery Parmer’s 17.

Bridgeport 52, Toronto 49

BRIDGEPORT — The homesteading Bulldogs hung on to pull out a hard-earned victory over the Red Knights Saturday evening.

Bridgeport (5-4) was paced by Cooper Dulesky’s 16 points. Dylan Gregorcic and Reese O’Kernik went for 13 and 11, respectively.

Toronto was paced by Shane Keenan’s 15. Brant Reeves added 12.

Caldwell 62, Martins Ferry 52

MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders dropped to 2-5 on the season after suffering a loss to a young and talented Caldwell squad.

Caldwell was led by Jett Lori’s 21 points. Impressive sophomore Bede Lori added 15, including an 8-of-8 effort from the foul line.

Martins Ferry was led by Jaizen Miles’ 19. Zach Flesch added nine.

SWIMMING

Ferry Swimmers Shine in Steubenville

STEUBENVILLE — Martins Ferry hosted its third meet at Steubenville High School Natatorium Saturday as Indian Creek, Union Local, Zanesville, East Liverpool, John Glenn and St. John also took part.

Martins Ferry’s girls victory came in the 200 individual medley when sophomore Marli Krol prevailed with a 3:06.51.

Sophomore Lilly Masters posted a 1:08.62 to win the 100 freestyle.

Sophomore Gia Starkey claimed the 500 freestyle in 6:56.68.

Sophomore Ashlyn Williams won the 100 breaststroke in 1:25.63.

The Purple Riders team of Krol, Starkey, Masters and Williams joined forces for a win in the 400 free relay in 4:51.81.

Union Local picked up a victory in the 200 freestyle thanks to junior Cheyenne Fillipovich, who touched the wall in 2:31.62 for the title.

BOYS

Senior Tristen Blatt got the winning started for the Purple Riders in the 200 freestyle. He posted a 2:11.97 for the title.

Senior Wyatt Wodarcyk posted a 6:23.44 to win the 500 freestyle.

The Purple Riders squad of Blatt, Kenton McCroskey, Matt Collette and Wodarcyk posted a 4:07.31 for the win.
