Roundup: St. C. tops Bellaire; Harrison girls win
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The homesteading Red Devils avenged an earlier loss by virtue of a strong four-quarter performance against Bellaire en route to a 53-34 win.
The Red Devils were led by Megan Malin’s 23 points. Alexis Thoburn and Shae Brookover went for 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Bellaire was led by Alli Ault’s 20 points.
Harrison Central 45, Barnesville 40
CADIZ — The Huskies picked up their sixth win of the season Thursday by toppling Barnesville.
The Huskies were led by Audrey Corder’s 14. McKayla Dunkle had 11 and Britton Positano added 10.
The Shamrocks were led by Halle Markovich’s 19.
River 51, Toronto 30
TORONTO – The Toronto girls basketball team fell to River, 51-30, on Thursday.
The Pilots were led by freshman Kelsey Harlan, who scored 18 points. Junior Hannah Raper added 13.
Andrea Reeves and Maddie Anderson each scored six points to lead the Red Knights (3-6). Jensyn Jackson and Kendal Thomas evenly divided eight points.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Alderson Broaddus 85, Wheeling 79
WHEELING, W.Va. — Alderson Broaddus scored nine of the game’s final 10 points to earn an 85-79 win over Wheeling on Thursday night at the McDonough Center.
Trailing 78-76 with 3:28 to go, AB scored six-straight points to move in front wth just over a minute left. Wheeling’s Jordan Reid made 1-of-2 free throws to make it a three-point game, but Josh Bradford’s free throws sealed the game for the Battlers down the stretch.
AB shot 53 percent from the field in the win. David Shriver drained seven three-pointers for his 21 points to lead Alderson Broaddus. KJ Walker had 17 points and Lacey Watson had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Reid led WU with 21 points to go with five rebounds, four blocks and three assists. Jordan Beale had 17 points and John Korte chipped in 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Jay Gentry added 13 points and eight more rebounds.
WOMEN
Wheeling 76, Alderson Broaddus 63
WHEELING, W.Va. — Wheeling’s Lilly Ritz had 23 points to go with 15 rebounds as the Cardinals picked up a 76-63 win over Alderson Broaddus in the season opener.
Ritz was 9-of-17 from the field to pace the Cardinals, and seven of her 15 rebounds came on the offensive glass. Shanley Woods chipped in 17 points, while Macyn Siegenthaler and Tori Harrison each had 11.
Yolanda Florido led AB with 14 points and six rebounds. Iyahnna Williams added 10 points and seven boards.
