D-II District Bowling Tourney rolls today

When the Division II Eastern District Bowling Tournament begins today, there will be a solid local flavor.

No fewer than four teams and an individual earned a chance to compete for a state berth during sectional competition, which was split between St. Clair Lanes and Boulevard Lanes.

The girls event will be held today in Coshocton at Legacy Lanes. The top two finishing teams and two individuals not on one of those teams will advance to state.

The boys district will be held on Friday at Sunrise Bowling Center in Zanesville with the winning team and top individual on that team qualifying to the OHSAA’s State Bowling Championship.

Barnesville and Harrison Central’s girls advanced out of St. Clair Lanes, finishing second and third respectively. The Shamrocks posted a score of 3452, which was 37 pins better than the Huskies.

A pair of area teams claimed sectional titles on the boys side and will now seek a state berth. Union Local won the title at Boulevard with a score of 3958. Harrison Central, which is two years removed from participating in the state tournament, won the St. Clair Lanes sectional with 4255 pins.

Individually, Barnesville’s Matt Hall was the top individual scorer among both sections, which earned him the right to compete again with a score of 652.
