Monroe baseball rallies; Harrison softball 3-0

WOODSFIELD — Weston Swallow smacked a two-run single as Monroe Central (2-1) walked off a winner Tuesday night in high school baseball action.

Swallow’s game-winner capped a three-run outburst in the bottom of the seventh as the Seminoles stunned visiting Steubenville Catholic, 7-6.

Jake Vinskovich hit a solo homer in the fifth and also picked up the mound win in relief. He struck out two and didn’t walk a batter.

Wade Stoehr singled, doubled and drove in a run for Monroe Central. Auston Hogue cracked four singles and knocked in a pair of runs.

Dover 11, St. Clairsville 3

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The invading Tornadoes pushed three runs across in the second and went on to post a victory against the Red Devils (1-1).

The Red Devils were led at the plate by senior Tyler Tonkovich, who had a triple, single and two RBI. Logan Shields and Jaren Starks each had two singles.

SOFTBALL

Harrison Central 7, Garaway 0

AT SUGARCREEK, the Huskies (3-0) remained unbeaten and unscored upon as Tristen Kovarik fired a two-hitter and fanned five.

Britton Positano singled, doubled and homered to plate a run and Jenna Young slapped three singles to account for an RBI. Maddy Butler, Sarah Touville and Abby Jozwiak all singled in runs.

Monroe Central 7, Shadyside 4

AT SHADYSIDE, the visiting Seminoles (2-0) tallied six runs in the second inning and held off the Tigers (1-1) despite six errors at the Mead Township Park.

Kynzi Bishop drove in two runs with a single and triple for the winners. Regan Hamilton had an RBI single and Kalista Friday doubled.

Rylie Fulton had a single and two doubles for Shadyside. She also struck out eight and walked one in taking the loss inside the circle.

Gentry Brown drove in a run with two singles and Mary Smith singled and homered. Kylie Jo Baker singled twice and doubled, while Tory Hendershot singled in a run.

Shadyside travels to Barnesville today.

Martins Ferry 8, Bellaire 2

AT MARTINS FERRY, the Purple Riders (2-2) picked up their second win over their rivals in as many days Tuesday, ironically by an identical score as Monday, 8-2.

Martins Ferry received strong pitching from Kelsi Gillespie, who had nine strikeouts and nary a walk.

The offense was led by Taylor Bell, who had a two-run home run.

Hunter Pollock, Lauren McFarland and Eve Agnew each had a RBI single. Danielle Lude had a RBI double.

Sophie Porter had a double and single for the Big Reds (1-3).

River 7, Fort Frye 5

AT BEVERLY, Katie Lively was a one-person wrecking crew for the Pilots as they defeated the Cadets.

The senior went the distance inside the circle, striking out five, walking none and scattering six hits. At the plate, she clubbed two singles, a double and home run. Katie Ruffner added a single, double and two ribbies, while Aiden Kraft singled, doubled and drove in a run.
