St. Clairsville’s Kish in D-II state semifinals
Skaggs also earns all-Ohio honors at 220
MARENGO — St. Clairsville’s Koen Kish will wrestle in the D-II 132-pound semifinals Sunday morning as the 84th annual Ohio state tournament moves to Day 2.
Kish, now 39-2 in his senior season, meets Louisville junior Pablo Castro (34-3) with a berth in the state finals on the line.
Kish, a Clarion University signee, advanced with a pair of workmanlike decisions over Newark Licking Valley’s Crae Muzykowski (6-2) and Wauseon junior Lawson Grime (7-2).
Castro won 3-0 in his first match before knocking of Graham’s nationally ranked Nick Hart, 4-1. Kish lost to Hart during the state team duals.
Red Devil teammate and classmate Reese Skaggs (220) also earned all-Ohio honors by winning twice. He decisioned Ashland’s Jakob Beverly (5-4) before being pinned by West Branch’s Kenny Marra. He rebounded with a lightning-quick 28-second pin of Shelby’s Carson Ingram.
Junior Caden Stout (145) won one match before being eliminated. Classmate Gannon Kazmirski (106) dropped a pair of close decisions.
The Red Devils are tied for 19th place with 15.5 points.
