Martins Ferry romps past Buckeye Local

CONNORVILLE — Martins Ferry scored 17 runs — seven in the top of the seventh — to romp past homestanding Buckeye Local Tuesday in high school softball action, 17-6.

Maria Clark recorded three singles, a home run and two runs batted in to pace the Purple Riders’ 15-hit attack.

Ella McFarland knocked in three runs with two doubles and a single, while Eve Agnew had a home run and two ribbies.

Hunter Pollock and Danielle Lude each singled in two runs.

Ava Doyle had two singles and an RBI. Shelby Thomas singled in a run.

Lauren McFarland picked up the win inside the circle. She struck out eight, walked four and yielded 13 hits.

Rylie White had two singles, a double and three runs batted in for Buckeye Local. Alexa Williams singled three times.

Landyn Walker singled in two runs and Isabella Hepburn singled in another. Josey Meddles had two singles and an RBI.

The same two teams met again Thursday in Martins Ferry.

River 7, Caldwell 4

AT SARDIS, Katie Rufener doubled home three runs in the bottom of the sixth to snap a 4-all deadlock and lift the host Pilots (6-2) past the Redskins (9-3). She also had a single.

Ayden Kraft singled in a run for River.

Katie Lively struck out a dozen and issued one free pass, but gave up 10 hits.

Bellaire 13, Wheeling Central 5

AT WHEELING, the Big Reds (6-4) spoiled the debut of the Maroon Knights at the I-470 Complex.

Sophie Porter singled and drove in five runs to lead Bellaire. Lizzie McAninch singled and doubled to plate another run. Kaylan Brown had an RBI single and Gianna Schmidt singled in two. Jayden Lowe had an RBI.

Grace Maupin went the distance inside the circle, striking out nine and walking one. She yielded five hits.

Cambridge 11, Barnesville 0

AT BARNESVILLE, the Shamrocks ran into a buzzsaw Tuesday, falling to the Bobcats for the second time this season by mercy rule.

Barnesville received a double from Maddie Schafer.
