OVAC All-Star basketball rosters set
For the first time since November 2019, the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference is holding one of its prestigious all-star games.
The Samuel A. Mumley Boys and Girls All-Star Basketball Games will be played on Sunday, May 16 at Wheeling Park High School.
The girls game will begin at 1 p.m. and the boys game is scheduled for a 3 p.m.
The Ohio girls will be coached by OVAC 2A champion coach Serge Gentile, who guided his Shadyside Tigers to the Division IV regional final, and Beallsville’s Tori Lang, who coached the Blue Devils to a conference title in both 2019 and 2020.
Shadyside’s dynamic duo of Tory Hendershot and Baylee Wach both were voted into the game.
Indian Creek, which played in the Division II Sweet 16, also had two selections. They are Taylor Jones and Kylie Kiger.
Fort Frye, which fell in the Division III regional semifinal, will be represented by Lexie Huck and Karlee Ross.
The remainder of the Ohio girls roster includes: Makayla Abrams (Steubenville), Olivia Alloway (Warren0, Maddie Anderson (Toronto), Lily Goodwin (New Philadelphia), Casey Kildow (Union Local), Makenna Phillips (Beallsville), Mikayla Reed (East Liverpool), Emily Siedel (Conotton Valley) and Ashleigh Wheeler (Shenandoah).
The West Virginia girls squad will be led by Wheeling Park’s Ryan Young and Cameron’s Holly Pettit. Both have led their schools to this week’s state tournament in Charleston.
The Patriots actually lead the way with three players on the roster. Included are Bella Abernathy, Lindsay Garrison and Asia Roby.
Pettit, who coaches an underclass-heavy squad, will have one representative in Lili Neely.
John Marshall, Weir and Wheeling Central also received multiple bids to the team.

The West Virginia boys coaches will be a father-son duo. Magnolia’s Daye Tallman and his oldest son, David, who is the head coach at Morgantown, will guide the Mountain State boys.
There are three Mohigans committed to take part, including Luke Bechtel, Xavier Pryor and Carson Poffenberger.
The lone Blue Eagle to be selected was Gavin Postlewait.

Henniger will have two of his own players — Kelton Fogle and Nic Hart — taking part in the game.
