Prep Baseball/Softball Roundup: UL girls sweep Bridgeport; Barnesville wins Shamrock Diamond Classic

MORRISTOWN — Union Local (6-5) made quick work of Bridgeport (0-11) twice Saturday afternoon, sweeping a twin bill with a 14-3 and 14-1 victory.

In the opener, Torre Kildow picked up the mound win. She struck out five. The offense was supplied by Hannah Merritt, who had a single, triple and RBI. Casey Kildow had a single and two RBI. Hailey Romshak had a single and two RBI. Alleigh Cheatham had three singles and two RBI.

In the second game, Rylee Magnani was the winning pitcher with a pair of strikeouts.

Offensively, the Jets were fueled by Merritt, who had a home run, single and a RBI. Casey Kildow had two singles and two RBI. Lauren Miller had a single, double and two RBI. Torre Kildow also had a single, double and two RBI. Magnani helped her own cause with a double, triple and two RBI. Keira Gregor had a single, double and RBI.

Monroe Central 16, St. Clairsville 5

St. Clairsville 11, Monroe Central 9

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The host Red Devils and Monroe Central split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

Monroe Central won the first game thanks an offensive performance that saw it pound out 13 hits.

Makenna Matz had a single, double and three RBI. Regan Hamilton had two singles and a RBI. Kazziah Baker had a single, double and RBI. Kalista Friday had a single, double and three RBI.

St. Clairsville was led by Makenna Moran’s three singles. Abby Salisbury had a single, double. Dekotah Namack had two singles and a RBI. Kalie Thomas had two singles and two RBI.

In the second game, St. Clairsville jumped out to an 8-0 lead and then had to hold on.

Salisbury had single, three doubles and four RBI. Namack had two singles and a RBI. Thomas, who was the winning pitcher, had two singles and two RBI.

Monroe was led by Friday, who had two singles, a home run and three RBI. Matz had a single, double and three RBI. Brooklyn Grubb had a double and RBI. Kynzie had a single and RBI.

Martins Ferry 15, East Liverpool 3

MARTINS FERRY — The slugging Purple Riders kept doing their thing in a five-inning victory against struggling East Liverpool Saturday.

Maria Clark was strong in the circle en route to the pitching win. She had six strikeouts and three walks.

Offensively, Ferry, received a double, single and a RBI from Hunter Pollock. Freshman Danielle Lude had a single and two RBI. Nevaeh Hall had a hit and three RBI. Lauren McFarland and Ava Doyle also drove in a pair of runs.

River 13, Frontier 7

NEW MATAMORAS — The invading Pilots completed the season sweep of the Cougars and ran their record to 10-2 on the season.

Katie Lively earned the pitching win with nine strikeouts and nary a walk.

Katie Rufener fueled the offense with three singles and four RBI. Rylee Knight had a double and three RBI. Hannah Raper had a single and a double, while Josie Reed had three singles and Lyndsey Huffman had two base hits.

Championship Game

Barnesville 9, Buckeye Local 1

BARNESVILLE — The Shamrocks claimed the title in the Brad Wilson Shamrock Diamond Classic Saturday afternoon by virtue of a convincing win against Buckeye Local.

Senior Ayden Hannahs was brilliant on the mound with 11 strikeouts in five innings of work to get the win. He also had two singles and a RBI.

Barnesville (12-1) received three singles and two RBI from Jeremy Hunkler. Jake Edwards and Spencer Bliss both singled and drove in a run.

Buckeye Local got two singles and a triple from Alan Burkett. Ethan McHugh singled home a run.

Consolation Game

Cambridge 13, Monroe Central 3

BARNESVILLE — The Seminoles dropped a pair in the Shamrock Diamond Classic, falling to Cambridge by mercy rule in the sixth inning.

Auston Hogue had two hits and a RBI. Westin Swallow had a double and a single. Kade Demchak had a pair of singles and a RBI. Wade Stoehr brought home a run with a single.

Semifinals

Barnesville 10, Monroe Central 3

BARNESVILLE — The Shamrocks kept rolling along Saturday with a drubbing of the Seminoles.

Gavin Carpenter picked up the mound win. He also had a single and two RBI. Jeremy Hunkler provided a big chunk of the offense with a triple, two singles and four runs driven in. Kason Powell also had a hit and a RBI. Ayden Hannahs had a RBI hit.

Monroe received two singles from Kade Demchak.

Buckeye Local 6, Cambridge 5

BARNESVILLE — The Panthers pushed a run across in the last of the seventh to stun the Bobcats in the semifinals.

Ethan McHugh was the winning pitcher and he also had a single, triple and drove in two runs. Matt Scott had a RBI single. Tyler Donahue also drove in a run.

Brock Valentine had a triple and two RBI. Blake Brumfield had a RBI double.

Regular Season

Shenandoah 4, Martins Ferry 3

MARTINS FERRY — The Zeps received fine pitching from Dayton Hill and held off the Purple Riders for their 10th win in 14 outings.

Hill fanned three and walked two, but he allowed only two hits to the Riders (6-5).

Mark Codinha produced a double and Cade Denius had two singles for the Zeps.

Colin Snedeker had a RBI single for the Riders.

Bridgeport 11, Beallsville 1

Bridgeport 18, Beallsville 2

BRIDGEPORT — The Bulldogs picked up wins number two and three by sweeping a pair from the Blue Devils Saturday on the Niekro Diamond.

In the opener, Dylan Gregoric picked up the win with an impressive, 12-strikeout performance. Zach McKivigan had three hits and three RBI.

In the second game, Cooper Dulesky supplied a bulk of the offense with three hits and four RBI. Cirian Flanagan had two hits and drove in two runs.

Union Local 6, Tusky Valley 3

MORRISTOWN — Union Local overcame 13 strikeouts at the plate to pick up a victory against invading Tusky Valley Saturday.

The Jets were fueled by sophomore Clay Akers, who had two hits and drove in three runs. Kolby Smolira picked up the mound win with five strikeouts and he also had a hit and two RBI. Tre Rex drove in a run with a hit.

River 9, Tyler 8

River 10, Frontier 0

KIDWELL, WV — River picked up a pair of wins to improve to 7-3 on the season by toppling host Tyler and Frontier in a split doubleheader.

Against Tyler, Elijah Wayt picked up the mound win and was the beneficiary of three double plays.

At the plate, Carter Dennis produced two singles, a triple and drove in two. Wayt helped his own cause by driving in five. Jake Rose and Brody Lollathin had three and two singles, respectively.

Against Frontier, the Pilots got four in the first and never looked back en route to the win.

Mark Martie spun a one hitter with seven strikeouts. Rose had a home run, single and drove in four. Dennis also drove in four with two singles. Wayt had a single, double and a RBI and River Thompson had RBI single.
