Prep Roundup: Martins Ferry girls outslug St. C.; Shadyside girls post a pair of wins

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Martins Ferry continued its red-hot hitting Wednesday afternoon in completing the season sweep of the Red Devils thanks to a pair of huge innings.

The Riders slugged out 21 hits in the game.

Junior Maria Clark led the way with a home run, two singles and five RBI. Danielle Lude had a double, two singles and a RBI. Hunter Pollock had two doubles, a single and a RBI. Catcher Shelby Thomas had a double, single and two RBI. Taylor Bell had a double, single and RBI. Ava Doyle added three singles and two RBI. Kelsey Gellispie had a double, single and two RBI.

The Red Devils, who dropped their third straight, received a big day from talented frosh Rachel Finnical, who had a home run, double and a single for two RBI. Dekotah Namack had a home run, single and three RBI.

Monroe Central 10, Barnesville 4

BARNESVILLE — The Seminoles took advantage a rough second inning en route to an eight-spot in the frame and went on to cruise to the victory.

Liz Roderick had a single, triple and a RBI. Kalista Friday had a double. Reagan Hamilton had two singles and a RBI. Rylie Winland had a two-run double and Kyra English had a single and two RBI.

Barnesville was led by Maddie Schafer and Emmy Gibbons. Each had two hits.

Shadyside 17, Bridgeport 0

SHADYSIDE — The Tigers scored early and often en route to a convincing victory over winless Bridgeport.

The Tigers’ offense, which pounded out 12 hits, was led by Bella Honeywell, who had two singles, a home run and four RBI. Kylie Jo Baker had a home run, double and three RBI. Mary Smith slugged a home run as well. Gentry Brown drove in two runs with a double and Rylie Fulton also doubled home a run.

Shadyside 17, Beallsville 14

SHADYSIDE — The Tigers completed the sweep of their split doubleheader by outlasting the Blue Devils in a game that featured four home runs.

The Tigers offense was again fueled by Honeywell, who had a home run, single and four RBI. Tory Hendershot hit a solo home run. Taylor Fulton had a two-run home run.

Sophomore Gentry Brown drove in two runs with a single. Smith had two doubles and two RBI. Baker had two doubles and a RBI.

Beallsville was led by Makenna Phillips, who had a home run, single and two RBI. Nalley had two singles, a double and RBI. Hannah Phillips had two singles and a RBI.

Harrison Central 31,

East Liverpool 1

EAST LIVERPOOL — Harrison Central pounded out 29 hits and took advantage of nine Potters errors en route to a lopsided victory.

The Huskies were led at the plate by Brit Positano, who had five singles, a double and seven RBI. Maddy Butler had three singles, a double and three RBI. Lexi Ferguson added two singles, a triple and three RBI. Lizzy Clelland had four singles and two RBI.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Red Devils scored early and often en route to completing the season sweep of the Purple Riders.

The Red Devils received a sterling pitching effort from Luke Jozwiak, who fanned four and issued nary a walk in a complete-game effort.

Freshman Braylen Blomquist continued to swing a hot bat. He had three singles and a like number of RBI. Senior Will Balgo had a single and two RBI, while Jozwiak helped his own cause with two singles and a RBI. Junior Logan Shields had a double and a RBI.
