Prep Roundup: St. C. tops Bellaire in baseball; HC tops Creek in softball

NEFFS — Invading St. Clairsville received impressive pitching from freshman Hunter Hoffman and fought off Bellaire for a 7-2 victory Wednesday.

Hoffman went the distance on the mound with two strikeouts and a walk.

The Red Devils offense was led by Logan Shields, who had a double, single and two RBI. Caleb Cook had two singles and a like number of RBI.

Austin Porter doubled home a run. Jaren Starks and Drew Sefsick each had two singles.

Bellaire was led by Chance Maffe, who had a two-run single. Senior Vince Patrone had a double.

River 7, Monroe Central 2

HANNIBAL — River got strong pitching and took advantage of five Seminoles errors en role to a victory Wednesday.

Mark Martie was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts. Brody Lollathin, Jake Rose and Colin Hunter all had two singles.

Landen Lydick had a single and double.

Indian Creek 6, Harrison Central 2

CADIZ — Indian Creek picked up a big Buckeye 8 North division win, scoring all six of its runs in its final two at bats to top the Huskies.

Indian Creek received a three-run double in the sixth from Isaiah VanDine.

Harrison was led at the plate by a RBI triple by Treston Nemeth.

SOFTBALL

CADIZ — For the second straight game, Harrison Central jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

The Huskies (10-2) scored five times in the bottom of the first inning Wednesday en route to a 6-2 win over Buckeye North rival Indian Creek high atop Sally Buffalo Park inside the Cravat Coal Cadiz Girls Softball Complex.

Harrison Central had tallied four times Tuesday in its first at-bat in a 11-1, 5-inning rout of St. Clairsville.

Lizzy Clelland tripled in a run while Britton Positano and Sarah Touville recorded run-scoring doubles.

Martins Ferry 10, Union Local 8

AT MARTINS FERRY, Maria Clark continued to swing a hot bat as the Purple Riders outslugged the visiting Jets.

Clark slammed a pair of home runs and a single that accounted for three runs. Eve Agnew and Danielle Lude each singled twice and drove in a run while Lauren McFarland knocked in a pair with a single. Hunter Pollock, Taylor Bell and Ella McFarland all singled in runs.

Kelsi Gillespie earned the win with five strikeouts.

Hannah Merritt drilled three home runs and drove in four runs for Union Local. Rylee Magnani singled twice and tripled to plate two runs. Alleigh Cheatham singled three times. Marissa McGarry had two singles and an RBI.

Shadyside 10, Barnesville 3

AT SHADYSIDE, the Tigers tallied all of their runs in the first three innings in rolling past the visiting Shamrocks at the Mead Township Park Complex.

Gentry Brown had a trio of ribbies while Kylie Jo Baker missed the cycle by a home run and drove in two. Macy Hendershot singled twice and had two ribbies. Bella Honeywell singled in a run and Tory Hendershot doubled.

Rylie Fulton recorded a strikeout and didn’t not issue a free pass. She allowed seven hits.
