HC’s Santille to play golf at Muskingum

CADIZ — Sam Santille was one of the area’s premier prep golfers the last several years because of the level of consistency at which he played.

That consistency has helped earn him a chance to compete at the college level.

Santille recently announced his decision to continue both his academic and golf careers at Muskingum University.

“The beautiful campus and close-to-home location as well as the relationship I was able to (form) with Coach (Joe) Puch and the rest of the Muskingum family are what really sold me on Muskingum,” Santille said.

Santille is coming off a brilliant prep career for the Huskies and head coach Todd Dunlap. Santille became the first player in Harrison Central history to qualify for the district tournament four consecutive years.

Not only did he advance the deepest in the tournament, he also set the Huskies record for pars or better in a season with 165. He was also a three-time All-Buckeye 8 finisher. He also had the first ace in Harrison Central history during a match.

“High school golf was the best experience I could have asked for,” Santille said. “I was able to be a part of many successful teams as well as have success individually. There are also many things I wanted to accomplish, but ultimately came up short on. Those things drive my desire to improve and succeed. Overall, my experience, teammates and coaches have made me into who I am today and this opportunity would not be possible without them.”

Santille’s fine play and career certainly didn’t go unnoticed. Along with being part of an OVAC and Buckeye 8 Championship squad in 2019, he was named to the All-Times Leader team three times and twice to the All-Valley squad. He was a First-Team All-Eastern District selection last fall after earning second team as a junior and honorable mention as a sophomore.

Despite his consistency on the court, no golfer will ever say there are no areas he can’t improve. Santille is no different. He pointed to his putting and short game as the areas that he “will be most focused on improving to compete at the next level.”

On top of his golf exploits, Santille earned three letters for the Huskies in basketball and two letters in baseball where he is currently a member of the every day lineup.

Away from athletics, Santille has shined as well. He’s a member of the National Honor Society, will graduate with honors, served as President of the Junior Class, earned two academic letters and is a two-time Ruritan Scholar.

On top of his academic and athletic prowess, Santille has accumulated more than 90 hours of community service and serves as a DARE role model.

Sam, who is the son of Denise and Kelly Santille, plans to major in Sports Administration.
