Union Local edges River in baseball; Bellaire girls win

MORRISTOWN — Union Local pushed all six of its runs across in its final three at bats to stun invading River, 6-5 Thursday afternoon.

Senior Tyler Gummere came on in relief and earned the win.

Offensively, the Jets were led by senior Luke Merritt, who had two singles and three RBI. Ayden Smolira and Evan White each had a RBI single, while Tre Rex had a double, single and drove in a run.

River received a single and two RBI from Brody Lollathin. Max Castro had two singles and a RBI. Carter Dennie had a RBI single.

Barnesville 10, Caldwell 0

BARNESVILLE — The Shamrocks bounced back from their loss in the OVAC Tournament last Saturday to thump invading Caldwell.

Kason Powell picked up the mound win with six strikeouts and nary a walk in four innings of work. He also had two singles and a RBI.

Logan Shepherd did a bulk of the offensive damage for the Shamrocks with two singles and three RBI. Jake Edwards had two singles and a RBI. Spencer Bliss and Kyvan Johnson both had a RBI single. Jeremy Hunkler drove in two runs and Ayden Hannahs had a pair of hits.

St. Clairsville 11, Buckeye Local 6

TORONTO — The Red Devils (13-6) took their show on the road Thursday and pounded out 17 hits en route to a win against the Panthers.

Robby Kain picked up the pitching win in relief. He also had two singles and a RBI.

Freshman Marcus Bush had two singles, a double and two RBI, while classmate Braylen Blomquist had two singles and three RBI. Senior Tyler Tonkovich had a triple, double and RBI. Will Balgo belted two singles and drove in a run.

Jaren Starks had a single, double and a RBI.

Ethan McHugh had a single and two RBI.

Monroe Central 10, Frontier 4

WOODSFIELD — The Seminoles picked up another win thanks to a big fourth inning in which they scored seven runs.

Jake Winland picked up the pitching win, working six innings and fanning a like number. He also had a single and two RBI.

Xavier Kinney had a double, two singles and a RBI. Michael Bunning singled home two runs. Wade Stoehr had three singles and three RBI. Auston Hogue had a trio of singles.

SOFTBALL

Bellaire 12, River 4

AT SARDIS, the Big Reds bounced back from a tough loss in the OVAC Class 3A semifinals last week to defeat the host Pilots (17-5).

Bellaire pounded out 14 hits as Allie Ault led the way with a trio of singles that produced three runs. Taylor Menendez also drove in three runs with a pair of singles. Kaylan Brown singled twice and doubled while Sophia Porter singled and doubled. Kirsten Boyle had an RBI double.

Jayden Lowe, who singled twice, went the first five innings inside the circle. The senior struck out five and walked a pair.

Katie Lively, Hannah Raper and Josie Reed all had two singls each for River. Lively and Raper recorded runs batted in.
