Wheeling Central hall of fame class to be inducted on Aug. 28

WHEELING — After a year’s hiatus, the Wheeling Central Catholic High School Athletic Hall of Fame is poised to induct its 2020 class.
Due to the Covid pandemic, the 2020 HOF ceremony was put on hold for a year. Now, the previously announced inductees will take their rightful place of honor with festivities planned for Friday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 28 as the school celebrates Alumni Weekend.
All the honorees will be feted during the Maroon Knights’ fifth Hall of Fame Brunch, sponsored by the Robinson Automotive Group, to be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the CCHS Great Hall.
The brunch begins at 11 a.m. Doors open at 10 a.m. It is being catered by Generations.
The Hall of Fame inductees will also be guests and introduced at halftime festivities at the Maroon Knights’ season-opening football game against Ambridge, Pa. on Friday, Aug. 27. The game will be played at Wheeling University’s Bishop Schmitt Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
This year’s Wheeling Central Hall of Fame class features Heather Contraguerro White, Bernie Shalvey, Bobby Reasbeck, Fritz Braunlich, Matt Hohman, Ray Powell, Edward Cihy, Michael Stiglich, Albert Salvadori, Michael T. Smith and Kristen Hetzel.
This year, the Hall of Fame Committee has also chosen two more passionate and dedicated individuals to receive the Maroon Knights’ Distinguished Service Awards — Nick Bedway and James E. Altmeyer Sr.
