St. Clairsville swimmers fare well at Dover Invitational

Beallsville girls basketball defeats Caldwell

DOVER — The St. Clairsville swimming team put forth a strong effort at the annual Dover Invitational held Saturday.

The Red Devil girls team finished second behind the host Tornadoes by a 348-291 score. The boys, meanwhile, finished third with 162 points.

GIRLS

Despite finishing second, the Red Devils were impressive in the water, winning two relays and five individual events.

St. Clairsville got the day started by capturing the 200 medley relay. The All-Ohio quartet of Olivia Moyer, Casadie DiBetta, Kylie McKeegan and Brenna Planey posted a 1:56.11 to win by more than four seconds.

DiBetta then won her first individual title, pacing the 200 IM in 2:16.70. She was more than 10 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor and established a new meet record in the process. A while later, she added the title in her specialty, the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.86. That mark was better than 11 seconds faster than the runner-up.

McKeegan picked up the victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.16.

Moyer collected the championship in the 100 fly.

Planey was the individual champion in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall in 5:49.61. She was also second in the 200 free.

The Red Devils capped the day with a win in the 400 free relay. The same foursome that won the 200 medley relay touched in 3:54.52 for the title.

BOYS

The Red Devils picked up the victory on the male side of the meet came in the 100 breaststroke where senior Jack Gasber posted a 1:07.10 to win.

In the 100 backstroke, sophomore Evan Yost was the champion in a time of 59.42. He was also second in the 200 free.

The team of freshman Zach May, Gasber, Yost and Brendan Miller posted a 1:51.32 to win the 200 medley relay.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Beallsville 46,

Caldwell 30

CALDWELL — Invading Beallsville used a strong second half to pull out its third win in five outings Saturday by a 46-30 score against the Redskins.

The Blue Devils were led by freshman Kaylee Hagan’s 13, while Hallie Bommer scored 11 and Jaycee Huffman added 10.

Frontier 63,

Bridgeport 16

BRIDGEPORT — Frontier raced to a 27-7 lead after one and never looked back en route to the big victory against the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Hailee Aubrey led Bridgeport with five points.
