St. Clairsville’s Moyer headed to D-I Marist for swimming

ST. CLAIRSVILLE senior Olivia Moyer (center) recently signed her National Letter of Intent to swim at Division I Marist College in New York. Moyer was joined at the ceremony by her parents, Nathan and Judy.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Olivia Moyer doesn’t make decisions on a whim.

The St. Clairsville senior admitted to enjoying researching things to make the best decision possible.

After a thorough process that culminated with her signing a National Letter of Intent, Moyer decided that Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY was the best fit for her both in academics and swimming.

“I put a lot of time into deciding where to go just trying to make sure I made the right choice,” Moyer said. “I researched the schools both for what fit me academically and where my (swimming) times would fit in.”

Moyer, a versatile swimmer, began competing at 7 years old and doesn’t show any signs of wanting to slow down.

“I am excited to have this opportunity,” Moyer said. “To have signed and know that I am going to be able to compete at the next level is amazing. I am thankful to the Marist coaches to give me this opportunity.”

Moyer took a visit to Marist’s campus and loved every second of it.

“It was a great experience,” Moyer said. “I was looking at school after school and it was just getting to be too much. So, when I visited Marist, I knew. I am just excited and blessed to have this opportunity.”

Moyer’s career at St. Clairsville has been highly decorated. She’s earned All-Ohio twice as part of the 200 medley relay team. All told, she’s swam seven events at the state meet, including three times as an individual.

Moyer began this season with a lot of motivation since an individual All-Ohio finish has eluded her.

“My goals are to drop a second in both of my (individual) events, so I am excited to see how that goes, but my biggest goal is placing in the Top 16 at the state. I’ve been right around it, so I am hoping to take that next step.”

Moyer has earned quite a collection of OVAC hardware, placing second and third in the butterfly and backstroke. She’s also claimed Buckeye 8 titles in both of those individual events.

Outside of the pool, Moyer is a standout in the classroom. She’s a member of the National Honor Society.

At Marist, Moyer plans to student political science and international relations.

Olivia is the daughter of Nathan and Judy Moyer.
