Barnesville sweeps championships at its own Shamrock Relays

BARNESVILLE — The track and field regular season came to an end Saturday as a dozen schools took part in the annual Shamrock Relays.

The host Shamrocks swept the team titles. The girls finished with 128 points, which was 26.5 ahead of Buckeye Local.

The boys, meanwhile, finished with 130 points, which was 38 ahead of Martins Ferry.

GIRLS

Barnesville was fueled by six victories.

Sophomore Marah Bethel won the 800 in 2:29.41.

Junior Aubrey Johnson won the 3200 in 13:31.58.

Sophomore Ayla Yater was the 300 low hurdle champion in 51.79.

Sophomore Kylie Moore was the long jump champion at 14-3.

The Shamrocks won the 4×4 (4:31.47) and the shuttles (1:17.42).

Buckeye Local had a double winner thanks to junior speedster Rylee Glover, who won the 100 (13.01) and 200 (26.98).

The Panthers captured the 4×1 in 54.47.

Harrison Central’s Nadia Tweedy captured the 400 in 64.79.

Huskies’ junior Grace Goudy captured the high hurdles in 17-flat.

Sophomore Danica Rensi cleared 4-8 to win the high jump.

Union Local’s Faith Moore was the 1600 meter run champion in 6:15.98.

The Jets won the 4×2 in 1:54.41.

Martins Ferry’s lone win came in the 4×8 in 11:39.65.

Bellaire’s Katelyn Hart captured the discus with a solid mark of 119-ft-6.

St. Clairsville freshman Claire Daubenmeyer won the pole vault at 6-foot.

BOYS

The Shamrocks were sparked to their championship thanks to victories in two events.

Distance ace Tyler Jenkins won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. He claimed the shorter ran in 4:32.50 and the longer event with a 9:47.38.

Martins Ferry’s Francis Toohey was impressive in the 800, winning with a 2:01.28.

Junior Jackson Carte won the long jump with a mark of 18-5 1/2.

The Purple Riders won the 4×1 in 46.08, the 4×4 in 3:39.47 and the 4×8 in 9:02.26.

Bellaire had strong showing with five victories.

Senior Colt Sechrest remained undefeated in the discus with a mark of 181-10

Sophomore Mayson Sochor captured the high and intermediate hurdles with times of 15.12 and 45.02, respectively.

Junior Ray Ray Pettigrew won the 200 in 24.01.

The Big Reds also won the 4×2 in 1:35.89.

Union Local won a quartet of events, including the shuttles in a solid 1:02.72.

Sophomore Johnny Sabinski was impressive in the shot put circle with a mark of 54-8 1/2.

Junior Carter Blake captured the high jump at 6-foot.

Junior Lee Adkins won the pole vault at 12-6.

Buckeye Local’s Cai McKeever won the 400 in 54.89.

Beallsville senior Brandon Louden won the 100 in 11.59.
