Prep Diamond Roundup: Buckeye Local baseball sweeps DH; Monroe softball sweeps Bellaire

CONNORVILLE — The Panthers swept a doubleheader against the Zeps Saturday at Bill Mazeroski Field to improve to 6-5 for the season.Buckeye prevailed by scores of 6-5 and 6-4.

In the opener, Jacob Berry, who came on in relief of Gavyn Romanyak, got the win on the mound.

Offensively, Berry had two singles and drove in a run. Romanyak had two singles and a RBI. Jesse Meddles had a double and RBI, while Alex McDiffitt had a double and two RBI.

Shenandoah was led by Jared Trenner’s two singles and RBI.

In the second game, the Panthers rallied from four runs down with a six-spot in the sixth to earn the victory.

Dominic Kempton worked the final inning and two thirds on the mound and got the win.

Berry had a triple, single and a RBI. Meddles and Skylar Ebright each had a single and two RBI. Romanyak had a double and single. Wyatt Luyster had two singles and a RBI.

Trenner had a hit and RBI, while Austin Perkins had a double.

River 4, Wheeling Central 3

Madonna 4, River 1

MIDDLEBOURNE, WV — River split a pair Saturday in the annual Matt Boggs Wooden Bat Tournament held at Tyler Consolidates.

The Pilots fell to Madonna in their opener, but bounced back for a win over Wheeling Central.

Against the Maroon Knights, Carson Makris picked up the mound win, coming on in relief.

Offensively, Brody Lollathin had a double and a single, while Peyton Blue, Max Castro and Colton Cisar all had a RBI single.

Against the Blue Dons, Makris had two singles, while River Thompson drove in a run with a single.

Martins Ferry 6, East Liverpool 4

EAST LIVERPOOL — The Purple Riders picked up their seventh win in 12 tries Saturday by rallying past the Potters with a three spot in the fifth.

Mason Reddinger picked up the mound win with nine strikeouts.

Offensively, Baron Lucey had three singles and a RBI, while Conner Probst had a single, double and drove in two. Ayden Ludolph had a single and a double.

Monroe Central 11, Waterford 3

WOODSFIELD — The Seminoles received brilliant pitching from Jake Winland and got plenty of offense en route to a victory over the Wildcats.

Winland struck out 10 as he worked into the seventh before giving way. He also had a hit and a RBI.

Carter Knowlton had two hits and a RBI, while Landen Lydick had three hits and drove in three.

Fredericktown 4, Barnesville 1

Barnesville 5, Toronto 2

BARNESVILLE — The Shamrocks (6-7) garnered a third-place finish in the annual Shamrocks Diamond Classic held Saturday at warm and sunny Memorial Park.

In the semifinal, Duker Castello had a RBI and the Shamrocks only mustered three singles.

Against the Red Knights, Barnesville received sterling pitching from Jaxon Wiley, who went the distance. He struck out four and allowed just one earned run. He also drove in a run.

Marshall Meade had two hits and a like number of RBI, while Castello plated another run and Taison Starr drove in a run as well.

Bellaire 13, Shadyside 7

Shadyside 7, Bellaire 6

NEFFS — Host Bellaire and Shadyside split a doubleheader Saturday at sun-drenched John Blacker Field.

The Big Reds took the opener and the Tigers held on for the win in the nightcap.

In the opener, Grant Vasey worked six innings to earn the win. He struck out seven and walked two.

Landon Preston fueled the offense with three singles and four RBI. Jake Heatherington had two singles and two RBI, while Joey Lewis had a triple and three RBI.

Shadyside got two hits from Ben Wach. Cole Micker had a double and triple plus two RBI, while Grant Miller had two singles and two RBI. Ryan Collins singled twice and drove in a run.

In the second game, Shadyside got solid pitching from Garrett Grover before Wach came on in the seventh to slam the door and record the save.

Wach had two more hits, while Anthony Forgacs had two singles and a RBI. Grant Miller had a double, single and drove in two. Collins had two more singles and a RBI. Micker had a RBI single.

Bellaire received two doubles from Kaden Banal, while Chance Maffe had a double, two singles and three RBI. Preston drove in another run with a single.

Tusky Valley 11, Union Local 0

MORRISTOWN — Invading Tusky Valley struck early and often en route to a five-inning victory against the Jets Saturday afternoon.

Union Local mustered just one hit, which was a single by Clay Akers. Only two other Jets even reached base.

MORRISTOWN — Brooke took advantage of 12 Union Local errors throughout the two games to sweep a twinbill Saturday afternoon.

In game one, the Bruins pounded out 10 hits. Forshea, who was the winning pitcher, had a solo home run.

Union Local received a single, double and three RBI from Lauren Miller. Kylie Stidd added two singles, a triple and a RBI. Hallee McGary had a triple and single and Ella Pietranton had a double.

In the second game, the Jets outhit the Bruins, 12-5, but couldn’t overcome five miscues.

Bone led the Bruins with a home run, single and three RBI.

Emily Kellaway had three singles for the Jets, while Miller came up a home run short of the cycle and had three RBI. Laken Vinskovich posted two singles and a RBI. Pietranton donated a double and two RBI.

Shenandoah 9, Buckeye Local 3

Shenandoah 11, Buckeye Local 5

CONNORVILLE — Shenandoah recorded two wins against winless Buckeye Local Saturday.

In the opener, junior Mya Leach was brilliant in the circle with 14 strikeouts and five walks. She also had a single.

Bailey Frye had a double, single and drove in two, while Laney Hitchens had a double, single and drove in two. Riley Hitchens hit a solo home run.

Buckeye Local’s Addie Jones hit a solo home run and Maddie Rosset had a triple, single and drove in two.

In the second game, Charli Wickham came on in relief of Leach to get the win. The pair combined for 15 strikeouts.

Leach had a home run and three RBI, while Frye had three singles and a RBI. Wickham and Laney Hitchens each had a triple.

Kaydence Kinyo had a single and RBI, while Jones had a double, single and drove in two.

Monroe Central 8, Bellaire 3

Monroe Central 5, Bellaire 3

WOODSFIELD — Homestanding Monroe Central improved to 10-6 on the season by sweeping a doubleheader from invading Bellaire on Saturday.

In the opener, Karlie Haslam was the winner in the circle with five strikeouts. She also had two singles and two RBI. Brookelynn Grubb had two RBI.

Gianna Schmidt led the Big Reds with a single and double.

In the second game, Kazziah Cecil was the winner in the circle with six strikeouts and a walk.

Kynzi Bishop had a home run, two singles and drove in three. Madison Stimpert added three singles and a RBI.

Bellaire’s Rylie Porter had a home run, double and drove in two. Majestique Jackson singled twice.
