Prep Diamond Roundup: St. C. blanks Ferry; Hess wins first at UL; Shadyside girls prevail in 10

MARTINS FERRY — The invading Red Devils ran their record to 4-0 on the season and snapped Martins Ferry’s three-game winning streak in the process with a 6-0 shutout .

St. Clairsville received brilliant pitching from junior Hunter Hoffman, who struck out nine and didn’t issue a free pass. He also helped himself at the plate with a double, single and RBI.

Brody Saunders added a RBI double and Braylen Blomquist had a double.

Martins Ferry received a double and a single from Turner Krol.

Toronto 5, Buckeye Local 2

TORONTO — The Red Knights improved to 5-0 on the season thanks to a 5-2 victory against the Panthers.

Dominic Bouscher was impressive on the mound and at the plate. He struck out 10 in six innings of work. He also had a triple, single and a RBI. Aiden FIlby also drove in a run.

Jacob Berry led the Panthers with a double and a single. Gavyn Romanyak drove in a run.

Harrison 10, East Liverpool 0

CADIZ — Senior ace Tre Rex was on his game Monday and completely shut down invading East Liverpool, while throwing a no hitter. He struck out eight and walked one.

At the plate, Rex had a single and two RBI.

Hard-hitting senior Treston Nemeth had a double, single and two RBI. Cabot Arbaugh, Anthony Pelegreen and Kaden Jurosko each had a RBI single.

Cambridge 2, Bellaire 1, 8 innings

NEFFS — A couple of aces hooked up on John Blacker Field Monday afternoon with Cambridge’s Jake Valentine and Bellaire’s Jake Heatherington hooking up.

Both fanned nine, but it was the Bobcats which pushed a run across in the eighth to pull out the 2-1 victory.

Keaton Kyser singled for the walk-off win.

The Big Reds received two singles and a RBI from Luke Heatherington and a pair of base hits from Landon Preston.

Shenandoah 11, Beallsville 0

BEALLSVILLE — The Zeps struck for four runs in the top of the first and never looked back en route to an 11-0 victory in five innings.100

Jared Trenner had a double, two singles and a RBI, while Brenden Portman drove in two runs.

Union Local 4, Barnesville 1

BARNESVILLE — First-year Union Local skipper Jim Hess picked up his first career win Monday afternoon over rival Barnesville inside Memorial Park.

Logan Hess — the son of the head coach — picked up the win on the mound with five strikeouts and two walks. He gave way to Clay Akers, who earned the save.

Barnesville received two singles from C.J. Hannahs and a single and a double from Reese Stephen.

SOFTBALL

Martins Ferry 12, St. Clairsville 7

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Purple Riders picked up their fourth win in as many tries Monday afternoon, toppling winless St. Clairsville, 12-7.

The Riders pounded out 15 hits in the game, including seven doubles.

Junior Ella McFarland had a double, three singles and drove in five to lead the offensive charge. Samantha Goddard and Abbey Sneadecker each had a double, single and two RBI.

Kelsi Gillespie was the winner in the circle and also had a double.

St. Clairsville received a pair of home runs and four RBI from Emily Dubsinsky.

Shadyside 8, River 2, 10 innings

SARDIS — It needed 10 innings, but in the end, Shadyside ran its record to 5-0 with an 8-2 victory over host River.

River got the game to extras when senior catcher Rylee Knight deposited a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Tigers then struck for seven in the top of the 10th to make junior Taylor Fulton a winner in the circle. She had 12 strikeouts and went the distance.

Abby Gorrell had two doubles, a single and two RBI. Senior Rylie Fulton had two doubles, a single and drove in a run. Bella Honeywell and Maci Hendershot both had a single and RBI. Arianna Saxton had a double and two RBI.

Harrison 20, East Liverpool 2

EAST LIVERPOOL — The Huskies struck early and often en route to a decisive victory against the Potters Monday afternoon.

Senior Maddy Butler provided a bulk of the offense with a home run, double, two singles and she drove in six. Olivia Tonkovich had a solo home run and a single. Isabell Yeager had a triple and three RBI, while Lizzy Clelland had a double and three RBI.

Barnesville 19, Union Local 4

MORRISTOWN — Barnesville picked up another win Monday afternoon, taking advantage of 10 walks issued by Jets pitching and an eight-hit performance.

Maddy Schaffer had a home run, single and four RBI. Madelynn Tyson and Abigail Johnson each had a single and two RBI. The latter was also the winning pitcher.

Hallee McGary and Hailey Romshak each had a RBI single for the Jets.

Shenandoah 13, Beallsville 6

BEALLSVILLE — The Zeps simply had too much firepower for the Blue Devils in posting a convincing win.

Charli Wickham earned the pitching win and she also had a double, two singles and two RBI. Bailey Free had a triple, two singles and two RBI. Mya Leach had two singles and drove in a run. Lainey Hitchens had three singles and a RBI.

Sydney Otto had a triple to lead the Blue Devils.

Bellaire 14, Cambridge 0

ST. JOE — The Big Reds pushed across 11 runs in their first two at-bats and cruised to a 14-0 victory in five innings Monday.

Majestique Jackson was the winner in the circle with seven strikeouts and a walk. She also had a single, double and a RBI.

Riley Porter had a home run and drove in five runs. Senior Lizzie McAninch had a single, two doubles and two RBI. Sydney Rowson had a single, double and two RBI. Alexis Morgan had a single, double and drove in two. Alli Ault had a single and two RBI. Gianna Schmidt added a single and double.

Bridgeport 8, Madonna 5

BRIDGEPORT — The Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season, posting an 8-5 win over invading Madonna at Irene Ehni Field.

Sophomore Vanessa Mullen was strong in the circle to get the win and she helped her own cause with a triple, two singles and three RBI. Brooke Stewart added a home run and a single. Rowyn Herman had a double and two RBI.

Wingett and Pulice each led Madonna with three singles.
