Simon provides only run as Post 1 captures 19U title

RICHMOND — Nate Simon’s RBI single in the bottom of the first inning provided the only run of the game as Wheeling Post 1 captured the 19U Beast of the East bracket with a 1-0 victory over Armory Baseball on the all-turf surface at Edison High School’s Unified Sports Complex.

Simon knocked in Alex Taylor with the only run. The game was called with two outs in the top of the fifth due to rain.

Luke Doyle struck out two, walked three and scattered two hits in getting the win.

Wheeling Post 1 5, Edison H.S. 1

Quinn Jamison fanned nine, walked two and permitted just one hit in a semifinal win over the Wildcats.

Taylor singled, doubled and knocked in a run. Simon had a sacrifice fly and Trey Prather singled in two runs. Jared Marsh had an RBI single. Andrew Skadra singled and doubled.

Post 1 rattled off four straight wins after suffering a 5-1 setback to Jefferson County Post 33 on Thursday.

Mid-Summer Championships

St. Clairsville 9, Midwest Astros 8

INDIANAPOLIS — Post 159 salvaged a 2-2 weekend at the Mid-Summer Championships with a victory on Sunday.

St. Clairsville (14-3) scored three times in the top of the fourth and then held off a late rally by the Midwest Astros.

Evan White drove in two runs for St. Clairsville with a pair of singles, while winning pitcher Lucas Heatherington also collected a pair of ribbies. Treston Nemeth singled and doubled and Zach Vickers had two one-base raps that knocked in a run. Tyler Stottlemyer banged an RBI double and Jake Heatherington also had a two-bagger. Peyton Blue and Drew Sefsick had RBI singles.

Lucas Heatherington came in with two outs in the bottom of the first and allowed three runs on eight hits. He struck out two and walked one.

Friday

Detroit Metro Stars 17U 6, St. Clairsville 5

A three-run bottom of the sixth allowed the Metro Stars 17U to rally past Post 159.

Jake Heatherington went the distance on the hill, fanning eight, walking two and surrendering eight hits.

Baron Lucey singled and tripled to produce a pair of runs for St. Clairsville. Nemeth had a two-run single and Vickers added an RBI single. Jake Heatherington singled twice.

Saturday

St. Clairsville 11, Rawlings Northern Illinois 17U 4

Ayden Ludolph and Stottlemyer combined on a three-hitter for Post 159. Stottlemyer earned the win with four strikeouts and no walks in 2.2 innings. He gave up one hit.

Chance Maffe singled four times and drove in five runs to lead the local squad. White had a pair of ribbies.

Hunter Hoffman tripled in a run and Braylen Blomquist knocked in another.

Indiana Black Bulls 17U 5, St. Clairsville 4

The Black Bulls played a run in the top of the sixth to slip past Post 159.

Ludolph slugged a two-run homer and Nemeth singled twice. Hoffman had an RBI single and suffered the mound loss with three Ks, a pair of walks and seven hits allowed.

St. Clairsville hosts Wheeling on Wednesday at Memorial Park. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
