Barnesville Shamrocks to host Monroe Central Seminoles

BARNESVILLE — Barnesville will be seeking its 24th consecutive regular-season tonight when it hosts Monroe Central for Homecoming on the artificial surface at Shamrock Stadium. Kick off is set for 7 and the Queen will be chosen during halftime festivities.
The Shamrocks (7-0) last lost in the regular season to Shadyside in week 3 of the 2021 season at home to Shadyside. The Green Machine is ranked fifth in Ohio’s Division V, Region 19 and is only one of two unbeatens in its division — the other being Gahanna Columbus Academy.
Barnesville has outscored its seven opponents 299-36 and averages 42.8 points per outing while giving up a miniscule 5.1. It has scored at least 35 points in all seven games, and given up doubles figures just one — 14 — to Bellaire. The Shamrocks have logged three shutouts (Buckeye Local 49-0), Newcomerstown (41-0) and Shadyside (53-0). Other victories are over Bellaire (38-14), Buckeye Trail (42-8), River (35-7) and previously undefeated Caldwell (41-7).
Barnesville leads the all-time series, which began in 1999, by a slim 12-11 margin. The Seminoles last won in the series in 2017, but prevailed seven straight times from 2008-15.
Monroe Central (4-3), meanwhile, is riding a three-game winning streak that includes victories over Buckeye Local (39-6), Magnolia (35-0) and Shenandoah (34-26). Its other win came at Bridgeport (42-0) in week 2.
The Seminoles are currently ranked No. 8 in Ohio Division VII, Region 27. They have lost to Edison (34-14), River (44-22) and Caldwell (48-26). They are averaging a shade more than 30 points an outing, but are yielding 28.9
Cameron at Valley
PINE GROVE — There’s a lot at stake in this small-school matchup at Thomas C. West Field.
The Dragons (5-1) have reeled off five straight victories after a season-opening setback to West Greene (Pa.) and enter the contest ranked 11th in the latest WVSSAC rankings.
The Lumberjacks (4-2) are riding a two-game losing streak after a 4-0 start. They lost in overtime at Beallsville and dropped a 10-point decision to visiting South Harrison last week. They sit in the No. 20 spot.
Linsly at Licking Valley
NEWARK — The Cadets (3-2) are looking to get back on the winning track when they visit the Panthers (5-2). They fell to Steubenville (27-19) last week and have dropped two of their last three after a loss to Columbus St. Francis DeSales (30-17).
Both of those contests were played at West Family Stadium on the West Liberty University campus.
In between those reversals, Linsly blanked Fort Frye (41-0).
Licking Valley is ranked No. 5 in Ohio’s Division IV, Region 15 and have won five in a row after two losses to start the season. It slipped by Watkins Memorial last week, 21-14.
In other games of interest tonight, Steubenville (6-1) hosts Taylor Allderdice (1-5) to Harding Stadium; John Marshall (1-5) treks to Keyser (3-2); Toronto (6-1) ventures to Bowerston to meet Conotton Valley (4-3); Paden City (4-1) travels to Hundred (2-3); Caldwell (6-1) visits Fort Frye (5-2) in Beverly; Magnolia (0-5) and Frontier (0-7) seek first wins in Beaverton; Waterford (5-2) welcomes Harrison Central (5-2); Tyler Consolidated (5-0) traveling to Tolsia (2-3); Indian Creek (1-6) welcoming Beaver Local (4-3) to Kettlewell Memorial Stadium in Wintersville; Beallsville (5-2) journeying to Jimmy Carey Stadium in Weirton where Madonna (2-3) awaits; Buckeye Local (1-6) makes the trip to the Multi-Sports Complex in Richmond to battle Edison (5-2) and Shenandoah (3-4) hosts River (4-2) at Zeps Stadium in Sarahsville. All games have 7 o’clock kicks.
At 7:30, Brooke (3-3)welcomes Oak Glen (1-6) to Paul Billiard Field at Memorial Stadium in Wellsburg.
On Saturday, East Liverpool (5-2) heads south on Ohio 7 to meet Bellaire (3-4) at Nelson Field in a 12:30 p.m. start. At 7, Bridgeport (3-4) heads noth on Ohio 7 to Harding Stadium to meet Steubenville Catholic (7-0).
