Several wrestlers heading to district tourney

MAGNOLIA — Nearly two dozen wrestlers punched their tickets to the Ohio Division II district tournament with top 4 finishes Saturday at the Sandy Valley sectional.

Martins Ferry, which finished third in the team race with 148.5 points, led the way with eight, but zero champions. Harrison Central and Edison qualified three each, while Bellaire, Bridgeport, Steubenville Catholic and Toronto had to each. Shadyside only had one, but it was a champion in senior Andrew Osman (144) who posted a technical fall in running his record to 30-6.

Other sectional champions were Bridgeport’s Jordan Noble (126) who is now 40-4; and Harrison Central’s Thomas brothers — Lucas (215) and Landen (285) who are now 39-0 and 39-3, respectively. Lucas is a returning state runner up.

The district tournament is at Heath on Friday and Saturday, with the top four advancing to the state tournament at Ohio State University’s Jerome Schottenstein Center on March 8-10.
