River Pilots take down Bridgeport Lady Bulldogs

WHEELING — Linsly swept visiting Steubenville Catholic in both boys and girls tennis action Wednesday afternoon.

The boys won 8-0 while the girls prevailed 7-0.

Winning for the boys were Wesley Palmer, Luis Brulles, Andrew Hoang and Antonio Fernandez, while doubles winners were Brulles-Agustin Fonseca, Palmer-Hoang and Augustin Liu-Fernandez.

Winning for the girls were Mireia Brulles, Ava Bartlett and Olivia Rosenthal.

SOFTBALL

River 4, Bridgeport 2

SARDIS — Kelsey Harlan singled twice and drove in a run while Zoey Fox added an RBI single as the Pilots (1-1) doubled up the visiting Bulldogs (2-2).

Ava Wohnhas struck out nine and walked three while scattering four singles, two of which came off the bat of Brooke Stewart.

Vanessa Mullen fanned 10 and walked two in the losing effort.

The same two teams square off again today on Irene Ehni Memorial Field in Bridgeport.

OLD WASHINGTON — The Jets swept past the host Warriors as Lakyn Vinskovich collected three singles, a double and triple that produced two runs on the day.

Kylie Stidd won both games inside the circle. She fanned 10 in the opener and two in the nightcap while issuing three free passes in each game. She also tripled in a run in the second game.

Alli Kellaway had two singles, a triple and an RBI while Myah Martin had a run-scoring single in each contest.

Magnolia 15, Valley 0

NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Blue Eagles took a definitive victory in just three innings Wednesday over the Lumberjills.

Sophia Alexander had four RBI, while Jessa Anderson and Caroline Heil each had three and Madeline Delaney had two.

Anderson pitched all three innings on the mound with six strikeouts, two hits and no walks or runs on her dockett.

BASEBALL

Tyler 9, St. Marys 8, 8 inn.

KIDWELL — The Silver Knights (4-2) pushed a run across in the bottom of the eighth inning to outlast the visiting Blue Devils.

Gabriel Jackson belted a grand slam homer to highlight a five-run second, but the hosts needed a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to draw even.

Zade Billings singled three times and drove in a run. Ethan Clark had an RBI single as did Jayce Miller.

Clark came on in relief to start the third and struck out 11 and walked two. He earned the win.

Paden City 10, Richwood 10

RICHWOOD — The Wildcats outscored their opponents on the road Wednesday, a five-run third inning the difference in their victory.

Kayden Myers picked up the win on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing just one run and striking out five.

Myers also tallied two hits and two RBI.

Paden City ran wild on the basepaths, with eight steals. Garrett Parrish, Bryson Stackpole, and Brayden Neff each had two swipes, while Joey Baker and Phillip Eichhorst each had one steal.

Richwood committed five errors.
