Harrison boys fall to Edison

CADIZ — After finding themselves down 0-1 after the first innings, the Wildcats erupted for 13 runs in the top of the fifth Saturday to leave the Huskies in their wake in five innings.

Evan Kimmerle led the way for Edison with four RBI on three hits, including a home run. Chase Freeman had three RBI of his own, whacking a triple as one of two hits.

Kyle Long had two RBI and three hits. Cole Pittman had three hits including a triple and one RBI.

Shadyside 18, Bridgeport 1

SHADYSIDE — The Tigers dealt a loss to the visiting Bulldogs Saturday in five innings.

Ben Wach drove in four for Shadyside, ripping two singles and a double. Wyatt Parr, Tyler Stottlemeyer and Luke Crozier each had two RBI, Crozier and Anthony Forgacs equaling Wach’s hit total.

Wach also picked up the win, striking out six and allowing two hits.

Danny Goff hit a home run to account for Bridgeport’s lone run.

Wheeling Central 15, Independence 7

Wheeling Central 8, Buffalo 2

HURRICANE — The Maroon Knights played their second and third legs of a two-day round-robin tournament at Hurricane High School on Saturday, besting the Patriots and Bison.

Against Independence, Eli Tucker helped power the offense with a game-high three RBI on three hits including a home run.

Eight Maroon Knights tallied an RBI against the Patriots. Seth Cover, Hunter Mueller and Luke Tiu each had two. Mueller struck for two doubles, Seth Cover and Kade Koroneos also getting two-baggers. Brayden Cover tripled.

Against Buffalo, Braxton Billick and Gary Hatfield each drove in two, while Seth Cover, Eli Tucker and Gary Hatfield each doubled. Jake Brown earned the win and Brady Ernest pitched three innings of shutout ball in relief.

Shadyside 8, Beallsville 2

SHADYSIDE — The Tigers (10-5) made a late push to qualify for the OVAC Class 2A playoffs with a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Blue Devils.

The defending champions earned the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 Frontier tonight at 7 at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex.

In the opener, Macy Hendershot and Emma Gorrell each drove in two runs, Hendershot with a double and Gorrell with a single. Arianna Saxton fanned 10 and gave up four hits.

Kinley Hughes singled and doubled to drive in a run for Beallsville.

In the second game, the Tigers collected 17 hits as Saxton singled thrice and drove in four runs. Makayla Faulkner knocked in three with a single and double. Taylor Fulton had two singles, a double and three ribbies, while Ali Weatherson picked up a trio of RBI with a single and double.

Hughes singled twice, doubled and plated two runs for the Blue Devils.

Petersburg 7, Wheeling Park 6

PETERSBURG — The Vikings got the better of the Patriots in an explosive eight-inning contest Saturday.

The two teams were tied 4-4 after seven innings, and though Wheeling Park scored two in the top of the eighth, Petersburg plated three to take the game.

Faith Randolph drove in three and snagged three hits including a double. Delaney Randolph and Daelyn Crumm each had two hits.

Wheeling Park 13, Robert C. Byrd 9

CLARKSBURG — The Patriots finished with as many runs as they had hits Saturday against the Eagles.

Katelyn Kozlowksi collected three hits including a double in driving in two. She was topped in RBI only by Delaney Rudolph, who had three ribbies. Abbie Harmon had two RBI of her own.

Harmon also earned the win for the Patriots, striking out eight.

Faith Randolph and Harmon each doubled.

Bridgeport 14, St. Clairsville 1

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Bulldogs swept past the host Red Devils Hannah Brewer and Vanessa Mullen evenly divided eight RBI, with Mullen recording three singles and a double. Brooke Stewart knocked in a run with a trio of one-base hits. Brewer had three singles and Rowyn Herman had a two-run single.

Mullen fanned six and didn’t walk a batter. She allowed six hits.

Lilyana Price and Kesslee Berrara each singled twice for St. Clairsville. Lainey Benedict drove in the only run.

In the second game, Stewart singled, doubled and drove in a run, while Brewer had two singles and an RBI. Brewer fanned five and didn’t allow a walk.

Rachel Finnical singled and tripled to knock in two runs for St. Clairsville. Price had three singles and Benedict two RBI.

Beaver Local 11, Union Local 10

LISBON — The Jets scored 20 runs in their doubleheader loss to the host Beavers as they committed 16 errors — eight in each contest.

In the opener, Laken Vinskovich singled three times to collect two RBI. Myah Martin knocked in two runs with a pair of base raps.

In the nightcap, Vinskovich singled twice and tripled, while Kylie Stidd singled and doubled.

Monroe Central 5, Toronto 1

TORONTO — The Seminoles scored four times in the third inning in defeating the host Red Knights.

Juana McElroy singled and drove in three runs for Monroe Central. Shyann Baker had the other two ribbies. Winning pitcher Kazziah Cecil struck out seven, walked two and spaced out five singles. She also singled twice.

Barnesville 6, Fort Frye 3

BEVERLY — The Shamrocks took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in a road win over the Cadets.

Maddy Tyson and Lilly Welch each drove in two. Abigail Johnson and Payton Dudzik each smacked doubles.

Johnson, Ella Betts and Sophie Carpenter teamed up inside the circle, Johnson taking the first three innings, Betts earning the win over three innings of relief, and Carpenter shutting the door in the seventh.
