Martins Ferry girls fall to Edison, 6-3

RICHMOND — Sophia Henderson launched a three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Wildcats to a victory over the visiting Purple Riders. The hosts also tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extras.

Giana Chirpas singled and tripled to drive in a run. Danielle Lude had an RBI with two singles. Maddie Lucas also singled in a run.

Bellaire 16, East Liverpool 2

EAST LIVERPOOL — Avery Shaver doubled twice and homered to drive in five runs as the Big Reds routed the host Potters in five innings. Bellaire scored four times in the first and six in the second for a 10-0 lead and never looked back.

Ava Ault tripled in two runs and Majestique Jackson singled and tripled to plate a run. Khloe Taylor doubled in a run. Marissa Pacifico had a two-run single and struck out seven, walked none and allowed two hits.

Barnesville 13, Wheeling Central 7

BARNESVILLE — In a rematch of Wednesday’s OVAC Tom Bechtel Class 3A semifinal, the Shamrocks got a measure of revenge in a win over the Maroon Knights.

Payton Dudzik and Peyton Loudin each hit home runs, Maddy Tyson smacked a triple, and six different Barnesville players took turns knocking in runs as Barnesville got off to a hot start, leading 12-3 after three innings.

Bella Rine tallied two doubles for Wheeling Central, and Erin Maxwell doubled as well.

Loudin also picked up the win on the mound, going five innings before handing it off to Ella Betts, who struck out three in two innings of relief.

Magnolia 9, River 1

NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Blue Eagles ran away with a win in five innings against the Pilots on Thursday.

Haidyn Bland notched three hits, two runs and an RBI out of the 3-hole for Magnolia. Jessa Anderson, Alyssa Tamborello and Bland– the top three in the Magnolia lineup– each scored twice. Sienna McKeever had two RBI while Sophia Alexander doubled.

Mallory McDiffitt notched another win inside the circle, striking out nine for the Blue Eagles.

Monroe Central 10, Buckeye Local 9

Buckeye Local 7, Monroe Central 2

CONNORVILLE — The visiting Seminoles and Panthers split a doubleheader, with Monroe Central winning a close one in the opener before Buckeye Local earned the split.

In the first game, winning pitcher Kazziah Cecil knocked in three runs with two singles and scattered nine hits. Jadyn Miller singled and doubled to knock in two runs and Baylee McFrederick had a two-run double.

In the nightcap, the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend a 3-2 lead.

BASEBALL

Wheeling Central 5, Harrison Central 1

CADIZ — Brayden Cover fanned 12 and allowed two singles in pitching the Maroon Knights past the host Huskies on Mazeroski Field inside Sally Buffalo Park.

Braxton Billick and Eli Tucker each singled thrice, with Tucker knocking in a run. Zayne Rosnick, Koy Lipinski and Kade Koroneso each singled twice, with Rosnick and Koroneso each driving in a run.

Indian Creek 11, Bellaire 0

MINGO JUNCTION — The Redskins scored five times in the first inning and cruised past the visiting Big Reds.

Ty Householder doubled twice and Sy Barcalow and Gavin Pownall evenly divided four singles and four RBI.

Caldwell 6, Shadyside 3, 9 inns.

SHADYSIDE — The Tigers fell in extended action Thursday, going nine innings with Caldwell before a three-run ninth sealed it for the visitors.

Caldwell led 3-0 in the third, but Shadyside chipped away at the lead before tying the score in the sixth.

Scoreless seventh and eighth innings gave way to a three-run outburst by Caldwell in the top of the seventh, and Shadyside was unable to respond.

Only one of the runs charged against the Tigers was earned, as Shadyside committed five errors Thursday.

Carter Wheeldin knocked in three runs for Caldwell.
