Wheeling Park gets no-hitter over East Liverpool, 11-1

EAST LIVERPOOL — Wheeling Park’s Nate Simon spun a no-hitter Friday night in a 11-1 high school baseball win over East Liverpool. The contest was halted after five innings due to the OHSAA’s 10-run mercy rule.

The Patriots everyday shortstop, Simon struck out five, walked one and hit a pair in his complete-game effort. The righty threw 78 pitches, with 54 finding the strike zone. He also singled and lofted a sacrifice fly that accounted for two runs. Brayden Kupsky plated three runs with a single and double. Rocco Digiandomenico singled twice and doubled, while Jed Hunley drove in two runs with a pair of one-base raps from the No. 9 hole

The Patriots scored seven runs in the top of the fifth to break open a 4-1 game. The Potters’ lone run came in the bottom of the first on one of four Wheeling Park errors. East Liverpool also made four errors.

Morgantown 10,

Linsly 6

MORGANTOWN — The host Mohigans tallied four runs in the bottom of the fifth and added three in the sixth and then held on as the Cadets scored two in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Andrew Skadra drove in five runs for Linsly with a single, double and home run. Jaxon Murray singled and doubled.

St. Clairsville 9,

John Marshall 3

GLEN DALE — The Red Devils completed their regular-season sweep of the host Monarchs as Caleb Keenan went the distance on the mound, striking out seven, walking two and scattering 10 hits. He also drove in three runs with a single and double.

Colton Florence added a two-run single and Rowen Mellott singled in a run.

Lex Wilhelm singled and doubled twice to pace John Marshall. He had a pair of ribbies. Issac Koontz singled twice and Hayden Gaider singled in a run.

Shadyside 6,

Cameron 0

CAMERON — The visiting Tigers used a six-hit shutout by Ryan Collins in blanking the host Dragons. The lefty fanned 10 and didn’t walk a batter in his 92-pitch effort. Sixty-nine of those offerings were strikes.

Cole Micker singled twice and homered to drive in a run for Shadyside. Tyler Stottlemyer singled in two runs and Caden Nippert drove in another with a single.

Koy Angel and Zayne Long had two singles each.

River 14, Frontier 6

BEAVERTON — The Pilots trailed 4-3 entering the top of the fifth, but exploded for five runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth.

Carson Makris drove in four runs with a single and double for River. Cooper Cisar singled thrice and knocked in a run. Hunter Nething plated three runs with a pair of one-base knocks. Wyatt Stalder had two singles.

Ty Nething picked up the mound win in relief of older brother, Hunter. He fanned seven and walked a pair.

St. Clairsville 7

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The visiting Red Knights led 5-4 before scoring six times in each of the fourth and fifth innings.

Rachel Finnical slugged a three-run homer for St. Clairsville. Jolen Brannen singled and doubled, while Lainey Benedict had a pair of ribbies. Emily Duibinsky had a double.

Michelle Anderson slugged a three-run homer for Toronto. Winning pitcher LeighAnn Anderson drove in three runs with a pair of doubles and JJ Rebich singled, doubled twice and knocked in two. Laney Danko had a trio of singles and an RBI.

Brooke 5, Shadyside 2

WELLSBURG — The Bruins tallied three runs in the home half of the third inning to outscore the visiting Tigers.

Alexis Foresha doubled and tripled to drive in a run for Brooke. She also fanned eight, walked none and spaced out six hits.

Abby Gorrell singled, doubled and drove in a run for Shadyside. Taylor Fulton doubled in a run.

MORRISTOWN — The Jets swept the visiting Potters as Kaylee Stidd won both games inside the circle.

In the first game, she fanned six, walked one and allowed half-a-dozen hits. She collected a double, as well.

Lauren Miller doubled and homered to drive in three runs. Myah Martin had a two-run single and Laken Vinskovich singled in a run.

In the nightcap, Stidd gave up a mere three hits while striking out five and issuing one free pass.

Vinskovich singled, doubled, tripled and plated three runs.Breanne Barbe had a single, triple and RBI.
