Post 159 lights-out at Morgantown Invitational
MORGANTOWN — In their trip to Mylan Park for the Morgantown Invitational, St. Clairsville Post 159 outdueled each of their three opponents between Friday and Saturday.
Friday, June 28
Post 159 7, Garrett 3
In their first game of the weekend, Post 159 topped their opponent from Garrett, Maryland behind an impressive effort on the mound from Indian Creek’s Sylus Hyde.
Hyde pitched a near-compete game, accounting for five and one-third of a possible six innings. Hyde struck out seven and allowed no earned runs. Post 159 committed three errors, and Garrett scored three runs despite none being earned between Hyde and reliever Ayden Manning from Steubenville.
Evan White and Ryan Mellott supplied the offense for Post 159. White had two hits and three RBI, while Mellott drove in two runs. Max Miller also tallied an RBI. Hunter Hoffman scored twice and hit a double, the lone extra-base hit for Post 159.
Post 159 scored five runs in the fourth inning to pull away. They trailed 3-1 coming into the fourth.
Saturday, June 29
Post 159 9, Blackhawk 8
St. Clairsville Post 159 came back from an early deficit once again, scoring three runs in back-to-back frames, the third and the fourth, after falling behind 5-2 entering the third inning.
Peyton Blue was the offensive engine for Post 159, hitting a three-run home run and finishing with four total RBI.
Ayden Manning started the game and went four innings, Steubenville Catholic’s Kody Carver pitched out of a jam in the fifth inning to earn the win, and St. Clairsville’s Brody Saunders pitched the sixth before a time limit ended the game.
Caleb Powell scored three times from the leadoff spot.

Berkeley Post 14 3
Against defending W.Va. Legion state champion Berkeley Post 14, St. Clairsville Post 159 took another tight victory.
Kody Carver limited Berkeley over five innings, and Brody Saunders picked up the save.
Sylus Hyde led the team with two RBI. Brody Saunders scored twice, tallied two hits and drove one run in. Peyton Blue had the go-ahead RBI hit in the fifth.
