BEVERLY -- Kody Carver improved to 7-0 with four-plus innings of relief work Wednesday as St. Clairsville defeated Beverly/Lowell, 5-4, in American Legion Region 8 action on the Fort Frye High School diamond.
The southpaw from Steubenville Catholic took over for Brody Saunders with two out in the third and Post 159 trailing 3-1. He scattered four hits, allowed a run in the seventh and walked one batter.
St. Clairsville snatched a 4-3 lead after tallying three runs in the fourth. Post 159 added a run in the fifth for a 5-3 margin.
Saunders drove in two runs with a single and double. Carver added a two-run double and Colin Powell singled in another. Hunter Hoffman added a single and double. Tyler Stottlemyer added a double.
Saunders struck out seven, but walked five. He gave up two hits.
