West Virginia linemen tapped for upcoming all-star game

WHEELING — There may not be much beef along the offensive and defensive lines of the West Virginia All Stars, but there is plenty of athleticism.

The Mountaineers will square off with their Ohio counterparts Saturday night inside Wheeling Island Stadium in the 78th annual OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Game. Kick off is set for 7:15.

On its training camp roster, West Virginia has just 13 linemen ticketed for duty along both fronts.

JORDAN BEASLEY, Wheeling Park — A 6-1, 220-pound defensive end for the Patriots, he accounted for 68 tackles, nine tackles for lost yards and had one quarterback sack.

His cousin, Corey Straub, played in the 2007 game.

He will attend West Virginia Northern.

Beasley is the son of Chasity Beasley and Shayne Saunders. He resides in Wheeling.

AYDEN BRITTON, Hundred — The Hornets only representative, this 6-3, 250-pounder played offensive line and middle linebacker last fall.

He registered 22 solo stops, assisted on 41 other tackles and had five tackles for minus yards. He also caused a fumble and recovered one.

Britton is the son of Jen and Brian Britton of Hundred.

DEREK CROGHAN, Wheeling Park — This 6-5, 300-pound Glenville State University recruit was a second-team Class AAA all-stater and was first-team all-Valley.

Defensively, he charted 53 tackles and four TFLs.

He is the son of Marylou Metz and Derek Croghan.

THADDEUS DEMPEWOLF, Cameron — A two-way standout for Dragons, the 5-10, 225-pounder was a first-team all-OVAC selection and a second-team Class A Aall-West Virginia awardee.

He had 54 tackles in his career.

Dempewolf will attend West Virginia Northern.

He is the son of Jessica and David Dempewolf. They reside in Glen Easton.

LUCCA FERRERA — This 5-10, 245-pounder is s fourth generation OVAC Rudy Mumley game participant. He follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Larry Ferrera, Jr. (1963); his father, Larry Ferrera III (1990); and his brother, Lorenzo (2023).

Ferrera was a dual threat on both sides of the ball, recording 65 tackles, 12 TFLs and 10 quarterback sacks. He was a first-team all-stater, first-team all-OVAC and a second-team all-Valley product. He also earned all-state honors in Lacrosse.

He is undecided upon his college plans.

Ferrera is the son of Andee and Larry Ferrera. They reside in Benwood.

HUNTER GODDARD, Magnolia — A 5-10, 200-pounder for the Blue Eagles, Goddard managed 40 tackles, 11 quarterback sacks and six TFLs. He also forced four fumbles and recovered three.

He will attend Glenville State University this fall.

Goddard is the son of Nikki and Danny Goddard. They reside in New Martinsville.

SCOTT SCHENERLEIN, John Marshall — This 6-2, 290-pound anchored the middle of the Monarchs offensive line at center.

He is undecided upon his future plans.

Schenerlein is the son of Kendra Tew (Hunter) and Scott Schenerlein Sr. He resides in Moundsville.

RYDER STERN, Cameron — He registered 29 tackles last season for the Dragons. He was a team captain and earned all-OVAC first team honors.

The 6-0, 200-pounder is the son of Dawnett and Tom Stern of Cameron.

LANDON TAYLOR, Linsly — A 6-3, 240-pounder, Taylor is also an accomplished powerlifter, holding the USPA Ohio State record for squat, bench and total. He is a two-time state champ.

On the football field, Taylor recorded 57 tackles, four TFLs and two quarterback sacks last fall for the Cadets.

He will attend West Virginia University.

Taylor is the son of Sabrina and Richard Taylor. They reside in Bellaire.

TYLER WISE, Brooke — Primarily a defensive end for the Bruins, this 6-3, 210-pounder registered 51 tackles, nine assists, 10 TFLs and 6.5 quarterback sacks last fall. He also blocked at 88-percent clip.

Wise also won the 2024 West Virginia 215-pound state wrestling title and will attend Fairmont State University to continue his academic and wrestling careers.

Wise is the son of Debra and Greg Wise of Follansbee. His father played in the 1992 game.

ANTHONY ZORBINI, Weir — A Washington and Jefferson University recruit, this 6-0, 250-pound former Red Rider was all-state, all-OVAC and all-Valley.

He is the son of Darcy and Brian Zorbini of Weirton.
