Rough N’ Rowdy 25 returns to Wheeling
WHEELING — When Barstool Sports makes its third stop in the Friendly City early next month, no experience required will be the theme as Rough N’ Rowdy 25 will feature many first-time combatants.
“We’re switching up to less experienced fighters to give everyone a chance,” Promoter Jerry Thomas of West Virginia Sports Promotions said during a recent telephone interview. “It makes for good competition and a very entertaining night.”
Rough N’ Rowdy 25 returns Friday, Aug. 9 for three hours of boxing mixed with backyard brawl vibes inside WesBanco Arena.
Except for a few returning fan favorites such as The Abel Brothers and The Fightin’ Leprechaun, “every fighter on the card is (0-0) with no real experience in the ring,” Thomas said.
“Do they know how to punch? Do they know how to duck? We have no idea. But we’re gonna find out together over three one-minute rounds with Dave Portnoy and Big Cat reacting on commentary ringside,” Thomas noted.
Thomas said there will be approximately 20-25 fights with no headgear including West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh fights, local rednecks coming down from the mountains to settle feuds with their fists, Zach Abel vs. Mikey Bets in a ‘loser leaves town match,’ Spencer Abel vs. Summer Brady, and ring girls doing their things all through it all.
“It’s chaotic, comedic combat. It’s wildly reckless,” Thomas added.
Rough N’ Rowdy made its Wheeling debut in May of 2022 and followed that up with an appearance in August of 2023.
Rough N’ Rowdy super heavyweight champion Brad “The American Redneck” Huntsman, from Bethesda, will not be fighting on this card.
