Ferry sweeps Steubenville Catholic in Wednesday night volleyball action

MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders shook off their loss Monday with a dominant performance on the volleyball court Wednesday, Martins Ferry sweeping the visiting Steubenville Catholic Crusaders 25-22, 25-12, 25-17.

Nicole Hammerquist led Ferry with 13 kills. Giana Chirpas had 10 kills and six aces, while Lindsey Best had eight kills and four aces. Olivia Harkness served up 30 assists and SJ Koller finished with a team-high 12 digs to go with a pair of aces.

Pilots Sweep Panthers

HANNIBAL — River sent Buckeye Local packing in the minimum three sets on Wednesday, winning the match 25-9, 25-14, 25-15.

Hallie Hammel led the Pilots with a dozen kills and seven assists.

Mallarie Maddy had eight kills. Maci Isaly had six kills while also tallying five digs and a block.

Kaylee Hagan was the set-up woman for River with 20 assists, also getting five digs. Aubrey Fetty led the Pilots in that category with 14 digs.

Hagan had 15 serving points for River, including three aces.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Conotton Valley won the OVAC Class 1A/2A golf championship at Belmont Hills Country Club with a team score of 338. The Rockets’ Brock Bower was medalist with an 81.

Magnolia’s JD Mensore carded an 82.

Union Local Rebounds

BARNESVILLE — The Jets snapped a rare two-game losing skid with a sweep of the Shamrocks by scores of 25-12, 25-22 and 25-8.

Olivia Wortman charted 16 kills, while Delaney Butler had 21 assists and Emma Yager 18 digs.

Brooklyn Burley finished with 11 digs; Alayna Logan 10 assists and Ameera Saunders eight kills.
