Teams and sponsors sought for Golf for Inclusion event

STEUBENVILLE — Local golf enthusiasts can tee off for a good cause during the first-annual Golf for Inclusion on Oct. 5.

The outing, which is hosted by Jeffco Services, Inc., will be held at the Steubenville Country Club with check-in at 1 p.m. and tee time starting at 2 p.m.

Registration is being taken until Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. while participants and sponsors are being sought.

Organized by Sean Smith, IT administrator for the Jefferson County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the event features a four-man scramble at a cost of $500 per team and includes 18 holes, a golfer gift, course beverages and a steak dinner. Smith said proceeds will provide additional opportunities that promote socialization and inclusion.

“I attended a board meeting a few months ago and wanted to do a golf outing,” Smith said. “We had a karaoke night in March for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and I wanted to do something to raise money and help that happen more often. It’s designed to raise funds to help children and adults with developmental disabilities to get them out into the community and to do events that promote inclusion.”

Jeffco is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization and its purpose is to provide support for individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring they have opportunities and services to achieve their maximum potential, increased independence, productivity and integration into the community. Jeffco also supports other community non-profits in Jefferson County as well as JCBDD.

Over the past year, Jeffco has donated to the Night to Shine dinner-dance, provided a charter bus for PALS adult day programming members to visit Kennywood, sponsored a trip to a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game, Karaoke Night and Summer Celebration events and also assisted individuals who cannot afford to participate in day programming, plus it has aided with emergency placements and funeral expenses.

Smith said golf teams are being sought with about eight currently registered, but he would like to see the number more than double. Other activities and prizes include pro shop credit, a chance auction, 50-50 raffle and competitions from long drive and longest putt to closest to the pin.

Meanwhile, sponsorships are available for holes for $125, beverage cart for $300, gold for $500, silver for any amount, cart for $750, platinum for $1,000 and presenting sponsor for $2,500. The sponsorships range from signage to social media recognition and a golf team. Payment must be made to Jeffco Services, Inc., 250 John Scott Highway, Steubenville, Ohio, 43952.
