Martins Ferry takes down Crestview, 48-41

COLUMBIANA — Freshman tailback Walkquem Cox ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns while senior quarterback Ayden Ludolph passed for 216 yards and a TD and also ran for 105 and two more scores in an Ohio Division V, Region 17 quarterfinal at Rebels Stadium.

Cox, who carried 11 times, scored on runs of 48 and 28. Ludolph’s TD pass covered 7 yards to Maurice Barnett. His scoring runs came from 1 and 5 yards. Colby Kropka tossed a 50-yarder to Alex Reese.

Reese returned an interception 80 yards and also charted 11 tackles, two sacks, four TFLs and forced a fumble.

No. 11 Martins Ferry now gets No. 3 Poland Seminary next Friday at Dave Pavlansky Field in Poland. The Bulldogs took out No. 14 Canton Central Catholic, 37-18.

Steubenville Catholic’s Andrew Rohde placed third in the Boys’ Division III meet at Fortress Obetz. His time was 15:06.94.

In Division III girls, Shadyside sophomore Chloe Meholovitch finished 32nd in 19:04.61.

WEST VIRGINIA

ONA, W.Va. — Tyler Consolidated junior Amos Kimble ran to a first-place finish in the W.Va. State Cross Country Class A Boys Meet Saturday afternoon on the 5,000-meter course at Cabell Midland High School. He clocked out in 16-minutes, 9.63-seconds.

Teammate Travis Moore placed seventy in 17:08.47, while Magnolia’s Landen Davis was sixth in 17:06.44.

The Blue Eagles took fourth in the team race with 119 points, four ahead of the fifth-place Silver Knights.

In Class AAA, Wheeling Park freshman Brenna Tipton placed sixth in 19:09.85 in the girls race. She was followed across the finish line by John Marshall sophomore Zoe Zervos, who timed out in 19:13.64.

The Patriot boys finished fifth in the Class AAA team race with 121 points. University won with 42.

Senior Redick Moore paced Wheeling Park with a 15th-place finish in 16:49.15. Younger brother, freshman Rylan, was 18th in 16:58.97. Senior Jacob Murphy finished 25th in 17:09.16.

In the Class AA girls race, Oak Glen sophomore Lacey Cameron ran 20:14.62 to take seventh. Weir senior Naomi Young was 16th in 21:27.29.
