Purple Riders’ Season Ends In Second Round vs. Poland Seminary
POLAND – The No. 11 Purple Riders (10-2) saw their dream season come to an end Friday night against the No. 3 Poland Seminary Bulldogs (10-2) on Dave Pavlansky Field in a 34-14 defeat in the Ohio Division V, Region 17 Quarterfinal.
Martins Ferry scored first on a 20-yard TD run by freshman Walkquem Cox, though the Bulldogs led 7-6 after the first quarter.
Poland Seminary scored the next 24 before Tev’n Williams found the end zone from 12 yards out with under two minutes remaining in the third quarter to bring the score to 24-14 Bulldogs. Cox ran for the two-point conversion.
Ayden Ludolph passed for 185 yards while Cox and Williams combined for 175 on the ground.
Poland Seminary led 17-6 at halftime. They will face No. 2 Akron Manchester in the next round.
Martins Ferry puts a lid on a 10-2 season that included a SPARKY Trophy and 48-41 upset playoff victory over Crestview in the first round. They wave farewell to a senior class of Jamel Smith, Ayden Ludolph, Jase Mahoney, Alex Reese, Tev’n Williams, Luis Carneiro, and Braxton Norton.
