Union Local scores upset in quarterfinal game
NELSONVILLE — Union Local (9-2) rallied from a 13-10 halftime deficit here Friday night at Boston Field to upset No. 6 Nelsonville-York (8-3) in an Ohio Division V, Region 19 quarterfinal playoff matchup.
The Jets scored 13 points in the fourth quarter as Isaiah Tomolonis ran in from 5 yards and Jeff Bolon added the extra point for a 17-13 advantage.
Then, Billy Schumacher gave the visitors some breathing room with a 34-yard interception return.
After Bolon gave Union Local a 3-0 lead with a 31-yard field goal, the Buckeyes went ahead 6-3 on a 63-yard scoring pass play. Tomolonis then connected with Dre Saunders on a 76-yard scoring pass. Bolon made it 10-6.
Nelsonville-York took a 13-10 halftime lead. Neither team scored in the third quarter.
Brody Perzanowski ran the ball 22 times for 95 yards, while Tomolonis added 55 on 16 carries. Tomolonis went 10-for-18 in the air for 197 yards and the aforementioned touchdown. Saunders caught six of those aerials for 116.
The No. 11 Jets will host No. 14 Wheelersburg (7-4) next Friday at Jets Field in a semifinal contest. The Pirates upset No. 3 Barnesville, 24-7, Friday night in Barnesville.

COLUMBIANA — The Purple Riders (10-1) advanced with a narrow win over the Rebels in an Ohio Division V, Region 17 quarterfinal at Rebels Stadium..

No. 11 Martins Ferry now gets No. 3 Poland Seminary next Friday at Dave Pavlansky Field in Poland. The Bulldogs took out No. 14 Canton Central Catholic, 37-18, last night.
Portsmouth Notre Dame 34, Shadyside 12
PORTSMOUTH — The Titans (6-5) got a bit of revenge over the Tigers (3-8) in their Ohio Division VII, Region 27 quarterfinal. Shadyside had defeated Notre Dame 48-18 in week 5 at Fleming Field.
The Tigers’ points came on a 7-yard pass from Cole Micker to Kolten Wallace and a 1-yard run by Ean Weatherson.

TORONTO — Toronto and Wickliffe exchanged punches throughout the first three quarters before the Red Knights delivered the final blow of the night as the seventh-seeded Red Knights rallied to defeat the 10th seeded Blue Devils in the first round of the Ohio Division VI, Region 21 playoffs.
With the win, Toronto will now play in the regional quarterfinals against No. 2 seed Springfield at 7 p.m. Friday night on the road at Springfield Community Stadium in New Middletown. Springfield defeated No. 15 seed Black River, 35-6, in the first round at home.
Zeb Kinsey threw for 159 yards and a score, while also rushing for 112 yards and another touchdown to lead the way offensively for the Red Knights. Mason Marchbank caught seven passes for 93 yards and a touchdown, while Aiden Filby finished with three catches for 62 yards and a score. Drake Boucher ran for 76 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.
W.Va. Regular Season
Magnolia 46, Valley 32
NEW MARTINSVILLE — Don’t look now, but Magnolia (3-6) is making a strong push to make the W.Va. Class A playoff field. The Blue Eagles are now No. 20 while the Lumberjacks (7-2) fell to 13th.
Landon Streets ran for 189 yards and two touchdowns as Magnolia led 22-18 at the half and 30-18 at the end of three quarters. His scoring runs covered 3 and 10 yards. He also had a trio of 2-point conversion runs. Hunter Cooley added 86 yards and touchdown runs of 9, 2 and 4 on 18 carries. Finn Loy had a 16-yard TD run and also snagged a pair of 2-point conversion passes from Kingsten Christen.
Gavin Derby ran for 152 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries for Valley. He also completed 7 of 13 passes for 101 yards and a TD to Landen Jerico from 7 yards. Derby also had a 2-point run.
Magnolia closes out the regular season against Clay-Battelle Friday at Alumni Field at Bill Stewart Stadium. The Cee Bees currently hold down the 16th Class A playoff spot.

WEIRTON — Andre Crossland’s 56-yard touchdown catch from Maddox Bowen with four minutes remaining lifted the Blue Dons over the Golden Bears in regular-season play Friday night. The Blue Dons improve to 6-3, while the Golden Bears drop to 0-9.
