Wheeling author completes his latest wrestling novel
“The Eyes Of A Wrestler” is the latest novel penned by Wheeling resident Dr. Bill Welker. The book is a story of a girl’s journey of courage and perseverance in Sports and Life. Her name is Bette Johnna “Johnsy” Raines.
“Johnsy,” an aspiring gymnast, and her parents, Robert and Pamela Raines of the Squirrel Hill neighborhood in Pittsburgh, were on their way to Temple University to tour the campus in hopes that she would attend the Philadelphia-based school.
However, on the trip their car is surrounded by a pair of twin brothers set on carjacking the Raines’ vehicle. During the process, both of the Raines were shot and killed in front of their eighth-grade daughter.
She was then taken in by her only relatives. She was filled with anger and guilt.
On the advice of her relatives, Johnsy went out for the girls’ wrestling team, which proved to be a physical outlet for her frustrations. To her surprise, she later learned of her very unique and amazing ability as a sharpshooter.
She is able to overcome the obstacles in her life, but ends up killing the two carjackers with her sharp-shooting skills. A time for retribution.
Welker’s other books include “The Wrestling Drill Book,” which he reported has sold more than 35,000 copies thus far; “The Sparrow’s Spirit” and “A Wrestler’s Curse,” both of which won Beverly Hills Book Awards; and “The Novel Wrestler.”
