BELLAIRE — St. John Central Academy is sponsoring a Home Run Derby for middle school softball and baseball players on Saturday, March 15 at Balsei Field in Bellaire.

The softball home run derby runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. while the baseball derby runs from 2-5 p.m. Trophies will be presented to all winners and runner ups in each bracket.

The cost for participants is $20. Participants may bring their own bat and a helmet is mandatory. Each player will hit off a pitching machine. First round each player gets 10 pitches with the top five home run hitters advancing to the second round. In the second round each hitter receives 10 pitches to determine the winner and runner up. In case of a tie, there will be a pitch-off.

Checks should be made payable to Beast of the East no later than March 8. The forms should be mailed to: Beast of the East, c/o Bo McConnaughy, 33 Hurst Ave., Wheeling, W.V 26003.

Please include name, address and phone number; Grades 6, 7 or 8 and indicate if you are taking part in softball or baseball.

Registration will be held this Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at St. John Central Academy.
