Barnesville girls claim victory at Shamrock Relays

BARNESVILLE — Edison’s boys and Barnesville’s girls claimed team titles at Saturday’s WesBanco Shamrock Relays in western Belmont County.

GIRLS

The Shamrocks posted 115 points to easily outdistance the field as Cambridge was a distant second at 76. Bellaire finished third with 68, followed by Edison and St. Clairsville with 68 and 64, respectively.

Individually, Union Local’s Pazeley Whiteley was a triple winner as she won the 200 in 27.41 seconds; the 100 High Hurdles in 16.33 and the 300 Low Hurdles in 48.78.

The Jets also had a winner in Morganne Emory in the long jump with a leap of 16-foot, 8.5-inches.

St. Clairsville’s Ava Crum established a new meet record with a 11-foot jump in the pole vault. She also ran a leg on the Red Devils winning 4×100 Relay along with Olivia McKeever, Kaylee Shafer and Emma Gasber. They timed out in 51.78.

Gasber and McKeever teamed with Olivia Perzanowski and Ava Borkoski to win the 4×200 in 1:50.38.

Martins Ferry’s Alanna Williams ran a 58.02 to win the 400 and also ran a leg on the winning 4×800 foursome along with Madison Oberle, Candace Oberle and Ireland Jennette. They timed out at 10:09.88. The Purple Riders also claimed the 4×400 with Lakyn Call, Jennette, Candance Oberle and Abigail Cika breaking the tape in 4:15.97.

Barnesville’s foursome of Lydia Fuchs, Lynzey Kiser, Aiva Leasure and Avery Bliss won the Shuttle Hurdles in 1:09.08.

Bellaire’s Kayla Edgar ran 2:37.56 to win the 800.

Edison’s Hallie Westbrook took the 1600 in 5:53.59 and the 3200 in 13:19.41.

Caldwell’s Gwyn Lori set two meet records in the discus and shot put with throws of 136-2 and 44-8, respectively.

BOYS

The Wildcats piled up 86 points to slip past Barnesville, which finished with 81, while Cambridge was a close third at 78. St. Clairsville and Bellaire rounded out the top 5 with 66 and 64, respectively.

Edison had two champions in Matt Evans and Andrew Kirkman. Evans continued to dominate the 110 High Hurdles in 16.45 and Kirkman leaped 21-foot to win the long jump.

Barnesville’s Aden Zumcock swept the sprints with a time of 11.62 in the 100 and he clocked out in 23.18 in the 200.

The Shamrocks also won the 800 and 3200 as Conner Starr finished in 2:00.31 and Shepherd Richey ran a 10:28.57. They also won the Shuttle Hurdles (1:09.08) and 4×800 (10:09.88). The hurdles foursome included Joel Detling, Colt Detling, Cole Francis and Eli Messenger, while the relay team consisted of Ethan Marcum, Brady Powell, Mason Starr and Braedon Willis.

Bellaire’s Raekwon Pettigrew ran 52.78 to claim the 400 and ran a leg on the Big Reds 4×400 relay team of Trevor Dowery, Manuel Garcia and Kole Gonglik. They timed out in 3:39.67.

Bellaire’e Kayse Rejonis putted the shot 47-9.5 for a first place finish.

St. Clairsville’s Chase Crum vaulted 12-6 to win the pole vault. The Red Devils 4×100 quartet of Ian McLean, Bruno DeFranco, Ollie Muhly and Hunter Orum finished first in 44.97.

Union Local’s Connor Benda won the 1600 in 4:28.94.
